3 Ways to Lose Stomach Fat

By: Craig Ballantyne

The best way to burn belly fat is a shock to most men and women. Even most personal trainers usually guess, "Crunches", "Situps", or "aerobic cardio" as the best way to lose stomach fat. But none of those work best, or even work at all!

In fact, I often get asked, What's the best way to burn fat and lose my belly? Do aerobics work better than interval training? Does resistance training help at all? What should I eat to lose stomach fat? All of those are common questions.

And now here's the truth. Cardio is not the best way to burn fat. In fact, I've met very few people who have successfully used cardio to lose stomach fat. And most of those people were young men, and anything works for them when they want to burn fat.

If you want to lose stomach fat fast, you need to increase the intensity of your workout by using both resistance training and interval training to lose stomach fat.

Australian researchers, such as Professor Steve Boucher, even believe that interval training can lead to a spot reduction of belly fat. That's something that no amount of abdominal training can do!

While bodybuilders and young guys without any cares in the world can spend an hour a day on cardio - and sometimes get results - men and women who only have 45 minutes, 3 times per week for exercise just can't depend on slow cardio workouts to burn belly fat.

Let's take a look at the perfect workout plan to get you maximum fat burning results in minimum workout time.

Here are the keys. First, start with a circuit of bodyweight exercises to prepare your body for a fat burning workout. This should only take 5 minutes.

Follow that up with supersets of resistance training using multi-muscle exercises for maximum metabolism boosting. This works so much for post-exercise calorie burning than slow cardio workouts. That will lead to more belly fat burning as well.

After 15 minutes of resistance training, finish with 15-20 minutes of interval training. Use a warmup, then do a few intervals, and then cool-down. You don't need a lot of intervals to get great fat burning results.

With that workout schedule, you'll be in and out of the gym in 45 minutes, three times per week.

Compare that to what most people do, which is run, jog, cycle or use the cardio machines for 45 minutes straight. Sure, that will burn calories, but it doesn't build a better body.

Men and women love the fast fat burning results they get from short burst exercise sessions. Your body was not meant to run marathons. Instead, it was meant to perform quick bursts of exercise, and that is why resistance training and interval training sculpt a better body than long, slow cardio.
The best way to lose stomach fat is to use the following three exercise methods.

1) Bodyweight circuit training to warm-up the body

2) Resistance training supersets to boost the metabolism

3) Interval training to burn belly fat

Put those three, short exercise methods together into one great belly fat burning workout if you want to lose stomach fat fast!

How To Support Healthy Eating For Seniors

By Yewande D. Awoyemi

We all need to choose healthy foods, but it is especially important for some older people. Appetites and the sense of taste can decrease over time. The challenge of preparing meals can seem just too much for people who have limited mobility and balance issues.

Diet is another area where elder care caregivers can help a great deal in improving not only nutrition but the basic quality of life. No one wants to eat food that is uninteresting or unattractive, so it's especially important to make meals colorful and tasty as well as nutritious and easy to eat.

How do you make meals that are tasty as well as nutritious and easy to eat? Here are some tips to help you:

1. Keep snacks healthy and fun. Eating small amounts between meals can help keep energy levels up and provide variety in a balanced diet. For snacks, try some of these:

a. Raw vegetables like carrots and celery keep well in plastic bags. Dip carrots in low-fat salad dressing, or add a bit of peanut butter to the celery.

b. Fresh fruit or dried fruit like raisins.

c. A handful of nuts or trail mix, always taking into consideration any food allergies or diet restrictions.

d. A smoothie made with nonfat milk or yogurt and fruit.

e. A few crackers topped with cheese.

2. Stock the pantry with foods that have a good shelf life so you're ready with variety and healthy choices. Think of canned tuna, rice, tomato sauce, soup. Also, think of herbs and spices – they last a long time and can add zest to a meal without extra salt.

3. Use your frozen assets. Frozen vegetables are handy when you need a quick boost for soups and stews. Frozen fruits like berries and melon – partially thawed – make a good dessert over a slice of angel food cake with a dollop of whipped topping.

4. Mix things up – have breakfast for dinner. An omelet with vegetables, a little meat, or cheese, and maybe a spoonful of pasta sauce on top can be a welcome change.

5. Take advantage of take-out. Sometimes a person just wants a taste of pizza or a chicken wing. It's not something to do all the time, but carryout food can be a treat. Just save leftovers and recycle them. Pizza cut into smaller pieces can be reheated for a snack. Leftover chicken can be lunch, or the meat can be combined with vegetables and pasta or rice for a flavorful stir-fry.

Pumpkin Seed Oil Is Good For Your Health

By:Darrell Miller

Pumpkin seed oil, as the name suggests, is obtained from pumpkin seeds, which can also be eaten roasted in the same way that people eat sunflower seeds. When roasted, they are coated in a sauce such as Worcester sauce and then heated in low oven for a long period of time. The secret of roasting them to maintain their nutritional value is to keep the temperature low and the cooking time high.

The seeds are regarded as a ‘superfood’ that is rich in vitamins A and E, the essential fatty acids known as Omega 3 and Omega 6, zinc, iron, magnesium and potassium. The seed is known as a pepita in North and South America.

The oil is reddish green and many people find it delicious. It is best when used raw, and can be drunk in the form of smoothies or shakes, or used as a salad dressing. Some also enjoy drinking it raw, and using it as a spread instead of butter or margarine. The benefits it provides to the human body are a healthy brain function, increased energy and it has a special use in maintaining a healthy prostate gland.

The vitamin E content is high, especially gamma-tocopherol, and it has a high antioxidant effect with consequent anti-inflammatory properties. Its effect on arthritis, and inflammatory disease, has been investigated and the inclusion of pumpkin seeds in the diet has been found to reduce the inflammatory symptoms of the condition with a consequent reduction in pain. In fact, in a comparison test with indomethacin, a common arthritis treatment, pumpkin seeds compared very well and in fact had a more positive effect on the damage to the fats in the joint linings than did indomethacin, which tends to increase the concentration of lipid peroxides rather than reduce them.

Its effect on the prostate gland is partially due to its high zinc content that is present in a higher concentration in the prostate than in any other gland in the body, and also to its effect on the hormones that cause the gland to grow and swell to the extent that it constricts or completely blocks the urethra, the tube connecting the bladder to the outside of the body. This is caused by an enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT causes the over-proliferation of the prostate cells.

The reason for the effect of pumpkin seed oil on DHT is still under discussion, but some believe that it is connected with the zinc content and others with the high level of delta-7-sterine in the seed. The sterine appears to neutralize the effect of the DHt on the growth of prostate cells.

In addition to prostate enlargement, Osteoporosis is another problem associated with aging in men. It has been estimated that men over 50 have a 12.5% chance of suffering a fracture due to brittle bones, and it is though that this is connected with a deficiency of zinc. In fact a clear correlation has been established between osteoporosis in older men and low levels of zinc and the diet and in the blood. Pumpkins seeds, as already mentioned, are rich in zinc, and the benefits of their use as a supplement to avoid an enlarged prostate is reinforced by their effect in protecting against osteoporosis.

Pumpkin seeds contain a high concentration of the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin. These are specifically useful in protecting the cardiovascular system and prevent atherosclerosis. They also contain plant sterols known as phytosterols that are believed to help reduce the blood concentration of cholesterol. This types of sterols are the basis of the ‘cholesterol busting’ drinks that are sold in supermarkets. They also help to strengthen the immune system and are believe to help reduce the risk of contracting some types of cancer.

Pumpkin seed oil is a rich source of alpha-linolenic acid, an important unsaturated fatty acid that some studies have indicated can be used to prevent metastaes (the spread of the disease) development in patients with breast cancer. The most prized type of oil is that from Syrian oil, from the province of Steiermark in Austria. Such pumpkins are also grown in parts of North America, and the best oil is said to come from the first pressing, the so-called ‘virgin’ oil. If used in cooking, the temperature must be kept low, since many of the nutrients are destroyed much over 100 Celsius.

A little known use for pumpkin seed oil is in eradicating intestinal parasites. Many people are embarrassed at requesting professional help for worms, and pumpkin seeds are the ideal home remedy. The act almost immediately, and two or three hours after taking them, or the oil, then you should take a laxative. You should the parasites being removed with the bowel motions.

The worms are not actually killed, but are paralyzed, and cannot prevent themselves being removed with the bowel movement. If a laxative is not taken, however, they will recover and there will be no effect. As with any remedy for a health condition, therefore, it is necessary to understand how the seeds or oil work to help to remove the horrible parasites from your body. They are very common, and any self-help or natural remedy that actually works will undoubtedly be very popular, but if it is not understood that these creatures must be expelled from your body while paralyzed, then pumpkin seeds or oil will not work.

Those that failed to understand the process would then complain that the treatment does not work. In fact, it does work, and if the worms are expelled when they are unable to remain in your intestines then they will be removed. You must “read the instructions on the bottle” for the contents to work.

Pumpkin seed oil is a very potent mixture of chemicals that can cure or control a large number of conditions, and it is essential that you understand why you are using them. They can be used as a supplement to your diet, though it is easy to wonder why you should take this antioxidant rather than another.

Find out what pumpkin seed oil can do for you, and if it applies to you then use it. There are stronger antioxidants, and better foods to take in an attempt to protect from certain conditions. However, there are certain circumstances when pumpkin seeds will do the job better than most other supplements, and if you can fit them into your regular diet then they will not only do you ‘no harm’, as they say, but will do you a great deal of good. Look for organic pumpkin seeds or pumpkin seed oil at your local health food store.

Natural Mineral Makeup - LoveTo Know Makeup

By: Frank

As beauty legend has it, it was the mid-1970s, in the aftermath of the frenzied Haight-Ashbury love-ins of San Francisco, that a quiet, little cosmetic revolution was born.

It was called "mineral makeup" – products made of all natural, finely ground minerals from the earth, without any of the chemicals, dyes, and preservatives found in traditional makeup. Fast-forward some 30 years: Mineral makeup is virtually exploding the beauty market.

With natural makeup techniques, you enhance your own beauty and prevent the complete revolution of your appearance. Ideally, when others view you, they should notice your face and not your makeup. Natural makeup is about the colors you choose and where you put them, not simply with how much is applied.

Mineral makeup contains only pure mineral pigments in concentrated form. Due to their concentration they perform the functions of concealer, foundation and powder - and incredibly all in a single application which binds to the skin so well that very little touch-up is required as the day progresses.

After mineral makeup is first applied – and this can be done very simply with a brush - the skin might appear a little powdery, but after a short time you will find that it is taken up very well by the natural oils within the skin.
And incredibly, you’ll find that by nighttime your face will look just as fresh as it did in the morning when the makeup was first applied, without shine or streaks.

Mineral makeup’s purity means that it works well with most skin types and you will find that it adds a day-long youthful sheen to your skin. But it also possesses several other benefits:

ANTI-ALLERGY

Since synthetic dyes, perfumes and preservatives are avoided in the composition of mineral makeup, there is little risk of skin sensitivity to the ingredients, resulting in a considerably reduced risk of longer-term allergic reactions.

EASY APPLICATION

Mineral makeup can be applied quickly and easily with a brush or sponge, and when applied to clean moisturized skin, it doesn’t smear or run. To immediately do away with the initial powdery effect, all you need to do is mist your face lightly even with ordinary water.

VERSATILITY

Due to it’s day-long enduring qualities, mineral makeup is not only ideal for those with hectic lifestyles, but it has also found favor in the film and tv industries. Plus, it is often provides a great solution for many with existing skin problems, such as those caused by burns.

Natural Makeup General Tips

* Apply your makeup in layers and step back from the mirror often to check your look.
* For all makeup products, sheer pale colors are the most natural.
* Always check your makeup outside in natural light.
* Avoid the use of a magnifying mirror.
* Fuller brushes provide a more natural application.

Natural Vitamin And Herbal Alternatives For Joint Health

By: Darrell Miller-1603

Joint tissue breaks down and arthritis sets in for a number of reasons, and there are several natural alternatives for joint health that can be use to prevent this and to treat affected joints.

Thyroid problems can slow down the production of adrenal hormones that are responsible for the production of cortisone and cosrtisol. These are anti-inflammatories, that when unavailable or in low supply can result in joint inflammation. If you suffer joint pain in the mornings that tends to improve as the day goes on, then it is likely that is the cause since adrenal activity can improve as the day progresses.

One of the main reasons for joint tissue breakdown is osteoarthritis whereby the cartilage wears down until it fails to provide the necessary protection against impact between the bones in a joint, or against the friction generated when two bones rub together. Injuries to joints can have the same effect, whereby an injury to a hip or knee can appear to clear up and then later the cartilage wears out sooner than expected. This can take several months or many years, depending on the severity and nature of the injury concerned.

Continual wear and tear can also cause joint tissue to break down. Athletes and other sportspersons often suffer twenty years or more after retirement from their sport due to the gradual wearing down of cartilage while they were active. Once they stop, this continues to a lesser extent until the cartilage is eventually worn away sufficiently for it to stop protecting the joint.

Problems with the auto-immune system can lead to rheumatoid arthritis and inflammation of the joints. This weakens them and can eventually completely destroy the tissue. In such cases the tissues in the joint tend to swell and become extremely painful. Gout can also damage joints, especially in the big toe. This is caused through a built up of needle sharp uric acid crystals. Another cause is a deficiency in sodium and potassium in the diet that are needed to help maintain calcium in solution. When these metals are in deficiency due, for example, to an adrenal problem or some other reason, calcium can deposit right in the joints, causing undue pain.

Calcium and vitamin D deficiencies are commonly associated with arthritis sufferers, and protein deficiencies are also believed to be a contributing factor of rheumatoid arthritis, and it is also true that degenerative arthritis can accompany rheumatoid arthritis. This occurs in almost 40% of cases, and diet and nutrition are now being recognized as a major cause of both types. Deficiencies in folic acid or its natural form of folate, vitamin E, zinc and selenium have all been associated with degeneration of joint tissue, so it makes sense that a supplement of these substances can help to avoid these conditions.

Standard medical treatment, however, is for the relief of pain and reduction of inflammation through the prescribing of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Typical NSAIDs are aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen. Although it relieves pain, paracetamol is not an anti-iflammatory. An alternative to blocking the inflammatory reponse is to help to regenerate the damaged joint tissue.

However, reducing the inflammatory response to tissue damage does not address the underlying problem, but masks it. Not only that, but there are side effects associated with the use of NSAIDs. Excessive doses can create serious gastrointestinal problems, such as bleeding, ulcer perforation and even death is possible in severe cases. Anti-inflammatories cause gastric problems in up to 20% of cases

The newer Cox-2 inhibitors act on the enzyme that causes the inflammation within the joint, and while these can be very effective, they are still masking the underlying problem. Incidentally, the Cox-2 inhibitors should not be used with NSAIDs, and both increase the possibility of a myocardial infarction or heart attack. Also, if you are taking aspirin to reduce the risk of heart problems, you should be careful not to use other NSAIDs since they can interfere with the effects of the aspirin.

More effective in the long run is to treat the conditions with substances that deal with the cause of the problem. Vitamin C, for example, improves the lubrication effect of the synovial fluid in the joints, and vitamin E is a strong antioxidant that can help to repair damaged tissue and improve the circulation within the joints. Joints have very low blood circulation levels, which is a problem when trying to direct drugs to the joint tissues. Vitamin C is also good for improving the integrity of connective tissue. Zinc, manganese and copper are also instrumental in developing strong connective tissue and helping to repair the damage done to the joints.

Horsetail is a commonly used herbal remedy that can be taken as a tea, tincture or in capsules. It is the richest natural herbal source of silicon, which is used by the body to form connective tissue and collagen. Damaged connective tissue is rapidly repaired by horsetail, and its strength and elasticity significantly improved. It is commonly used in the treatment of arthritis and osteoporosis.

Cat’s Claw is used for its beneficial effect on the immune system, and frequently used successfully to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. However, this treatment is used more to help reduce the inflammatory effects of the condition than to effect a long lasting cure. Gotu Kola, also called Indian pennywort, is traditionally used for treating arthritis. The fresh leaves are effective in reducing the inflammation and pain, and help to improve the quality of life of arthritis sufferers. In Australia, it is referred to as ‘the arthritis herb’ and two leaves a day are said to be effective.

Another popular remedy is MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), although it is claimed to provide pain relief rather than a cure. Amino acids also seem to help, and L-cysteine helps promote collagen and connective tissue. It appears to work best when taken in combination with vitamin E and selenium that are powerful antioxidants. L-arginine has a similar effect in the reconstruction of joint tissue, again helping to repair damaged connective tissues.

There are therefore two approaches to treating both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, one providing pain relief and reducing inflammation, and the other repairing the damage done to the joint tissues. Vitamins, minerals, trace minerals and herbal remedies are used in both, though it is better to use a combination that provides pain relief and also helps to regenerate strong connective tissues in the joints.

When using combinations of remedies it is important that possible interactions are understood, and you should always seek the advice of your physician when using non-prescription remedies of any kind.

10 Reasons Why We Should All Drink More Water

By: Simon Wilkes

"Water is the safest thing for you to drink. What we mean by “water” is plain water, mineral water, seltzer water, sparkling water or any other water you may have in your area that has ZERO calories. Be sure to check the label on any water you buy because you may be shocked to see sugar or sodium or caffeine, or all three, in some of your favourite water

1. Water is the essence of life. Life cannot exist without water. We must always be adding fresh water to our bodies in order to keep them well hydrated. Water can be a wonder cure for a lot of common illnesses such as headaches, fatigue, joint pain, and much more. We can go for weeks without food, but only 3 days without water. Over half your body is made up of water.

2. Water prevents and cures heartburn. Heartburn is an indication of water deficiency in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract. It is a major thirst signal of the human body. The use of antacids or other tablets in dealing with this pain does not correct dehydration, and the body goes on suffering because of its water shortage. Tragedy: if you don’t identify heartburn as a symptom of dehydration and you keep treating it with antacids and other pills it will, in time, create inflammation of the stomach and duodenum, hiatal hernia, ulceration, and ultimately cancers in the gastrointestinal tract, including the liver and pancreas.

3. Water jump starts your body: while your mind may react to caffeine in the morning, water helps the rest of your body get moving. It begins by helping to ease dry mouth and goes on to work the magic of motion throughout your system. Soda and coffee don’t count. Although they are liquid beverages, the caffeine in both can in fact add to fluid loss through diuresis.

4. Water helps preserve healthy body weight by increasing metabolism and regulating appetite. Water also reduces feelings of hunger. The kidneys can’t work properly without enough water. Some of the load is moved to the liver when this occurs. The liver metabolizes stored fat for energy, so the body burns less fat if the liver is doing some of the kidneys’ work.

5. Water washes out toxins and other metabolic waste products from the body. It helps get rid of excess nitrogen, urea, and ketones, so it is particularly important when following a high protein diet. You need even more water to help your kidneys do their work if you’re eating big to gain weight.

6. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, adequate fluid replacement helps to maintain hydration therefore optimizing and enhancing performance of those participating in regular exercise. They suggest flavored waters to promote hydration and to increase palatability. Products such as Gatorade’s Propel Fitness Water are, therefore, terrific substitutes for plain water to increase fluid intake and meet the optimum consumption of water per day, thus enhancing performance and lessening the possibility of dehydration.

7. Women who drink more than five glasses of water a day are 41% less likely to die from a heart attack than those who drink less than two glasses. The protective effect of water is even greater in men. Not all liquids are equal. The consumption of other liquids such as coffee, tea, juice, milk and alcohol actually increase your risk of heart attack.

8. Michaud and coworkers found that the incidence of cancer in the urinary bladder was reduced significantly by a high fluid intake in a ten-year study involving nearly 48,000 men. The top 20% of subjects who participated in the study drank 2500 ml per day or more, while the bottom 20% drank 1200 ml or less. The authors concluded that within this range, the risk of bladder cancer decreased by 7% for every 240 ml of fluid added.

9. When you don’t have enough water in your body, your cells start to draw water from the bloodstream. Your heart has to work harder because your blood gets sludgy, and your body starts to redirect blood away from less vital areas. Dehydration can set in even before you start to feel thirsty. This is a great strain on the body because it impairs the kidneys in their vital function of purifying the blood and helping the body get rid of toxins.

10. Water is the nutrient your body needs the most. Between 55 and 75 percent of adult body weight is water, and it is critical in regulating all body organs and temperature as well as dissolving solids and moving nutrients throughout the body. Research has shown that proper hydration may minimize chronic pains such as rheumatoid arthritis, lower back pain, migraines and colitis as well as lower cholesterol and blood pressure.

The best way to figure out if you’re drinking enough water is to look at your urine. It should be a very light shade of yellow. Drink up if it’s darker. Let your thirst guide you, also. You might not need eight glasses to feel hydrated on a mild day. You could crave nine or 10 if it’s hot or you’re exercising. Bottom line? Your body is 90 percent waterand needs it for digestion, healthy skin, blood circulation, temperature control and lots of other reasons.

Water is an essential part of your body. The standard is about 8-10 cups a day for adults, although there is still dispute on how much is enough. Drink soda, tea and coffee in moderation. Sweet beverages and those with caffeine reduce the hydrating effect of liquid and may create other health threats. Honest to goodness water is the gold standard with the ability for 100% water replacement."

The 7 Rules For Gaining Fat... FAST!

By: Dax Moy

So, you’ve decided to give up.

You’re fed up of all the diets that have promised you great results yet left you hungry, tired, irritable and weak.

You’re fed up of all the ‘wonder workouts’ that have promised you amazing strength, fitness and flexibility ‘in just minutes a day’ but that have left you feeling tired, sore, stiff and, truth be told, no firmer or less flabby than you were before.

But most of all, you’re fed up of all those fitness ‘experts’ out there who tell you how easy it is, how little time it takes and how amazing you’re going to look if you follow THEIR program (ONLY theirs, mind you, no-one else’s will even come near to what they’re offering).

So you’re quitting.

You’re giving up the diet and exercise ‘thing’ and have decided that you’ll just go with the flow and see what happens to your body when the experts aren’t poking their noses into your business and ramming their idea of healthy down your throat.

What a great idea!

No more ‘eat this’ or ‘don’t eat that’, no more ‘don’t forget your cardio’ or ‘weights is better’.

In fact, no more interference of any kind from the countless do-gooders who seem to think that it’s ok for them to advise, nag and bully you into following all kinds of fat loss and fitness advice… as long as it’s theirs.

Good on you!

But before you take the quitters route that most people take, doesn’t it make sense to quit in the right way?

Sure it does!

There’s a science to quitting too y’know and I’m just the person to share it with you : )

So here’s the deal. If you want to quit and quit fast, if you want to pack on pound after pound of soft, warm, figure-blurring bodyfat then you’ve got to have a strategy.

You’ve got to have a plan.

MY plan is easy, straightforward and six-year-old-simple to follow and consists of just seven rules that, if you follow them, will guarantee you the maximum fat gain in the shortest time frame.

It consists of just 7 rules

Rule one: Only eat processed foods
If you’re truly serious about packing on some serious fat-pounds, you’ll follow this rule faithfully.

Without a doubt, processed foods are the No.1 friend to fat due to their denatured, sugar-loaded and mostly synthetic nature.

With most of the vitamins and minerals removed from processed foods, the highly calorific and mostly indigestible remain, creating a massive storehouse of both calories and toxins for you to bury deep within your already overloaded fatty tissues.

Better still, the toxic nature of most processed foods mean that you’ll gain not only fat but a whole lot of subcutaneous water too as your body tries to ‘dilute’ the impact of all the extra toxins you’re holding onto, meaning that you’ll put on extra scale weight and look soft and squidgy into the bargain.

Great stuff!

Rule two: Cram in as many starchy carbs as you can

Starchy carbs eaten in isolation or, better yet, with sugary carbs are an absolutely fantastic way to accelerate the battle of the bulge and gain both fat and body weight at a more rapid pace.

Eating carbohydrates in isolation allows your hormones to engage in a free-running form of guerrilla warfare where insulin levels raise through the roof and, in doing so, command your body to store fat.

A word of warning though; whatever you do, don’t mix your starches with fats or proteins. This reduces both the amount and the effect of all that lovely insulin and will definitely scupper your chances at serious fat gain.

Rule Three: Get to bed as late as you can

If rapid fat gain is your greatest desire, then make sure that you get to bed as late as you possibly can, with the ideal scenario being that you stay up so late every night that you fall asleep on the sofa.

Doing This will ensure a steady supply of the stress hormone cortisol into your bloodstream to help you break down all that energy-consuming lean muscle tissue that’s slowing down your fat gain.

Just don’t ruin the effect by getting to bed by 10:30 or you’ll find that the cortisol levels drop far too low to cannibalise your muscle and you may even find that you lose all your precious fat!

Rule four: Steer clear of water

Drink too much water and you’ll not only do away with your body’s false food cravings (meaning that you won’t eat unnecessarily), but you’ll also create a freer flowing route for the digestion of the foods you’ve eaten.

Obviously, this is a bad thing as it means you won’t keep undigested foods in your stomach long enough for them to go putrid and add to the overall toxic load on your system.

Remember, anything that speeds up your metabolism is bad!

Instead, use coffee, tea and soda to 'mix up' your metabolism and increase toxicity.

Rule five: Don’t forget the alcohol!

Alcohol is just about as pure a sugar source as you can get and is absolutely jam-packed with calories that contribute nothing to the function of your body.

Better still, alcohol adds to your toxic load meaning that you’ll hold a large amount of water too!

Rule Six Use the microwave for all of your cooking

Microwave’s are great!

During the heating process they vibrate the molecules of your food so fast that they actually change their structure, meaning that when you eat nuked food, your body has no idea about how to cope with them, let alone extract nutrition from them.

This is fantastic for your fat gain quest because you’ll be adding to your toxic load AND creating a surplus of non-nutritional calories, meaning that you’ll get hungry again very soon after eating and have another opportunity to stock up on calories.

Rule Seven: Avoid all unnecessary movement

There’s no getting away from it, movement of any kind costs you valuable calorie-energy and robs you of the vital fat building stores that’ll be necessary for your quest.

Stay as still as you can to conserve as much energy as possible and commit to using as many labour-saving devices as you can find. Things like remote controls, stair lifts, escalators etc all serve a valuable role in the creation of your fat stores, so use them.

If you are forced to move, then whatever you do, don’t engage in any form of activity that might lead to an increase in strength or muscle mass as this’ll speed up your metabolism and rob you of calories. Instead, engage in steady-state, slow aerobic activities as these are energy efficient and have the added benefit of increasing cortisol and, in doing so, breaking down that calorie-robbing muscle tissue.

So that’s it!

Your seven rules that, if followed, will absolutely guarantee that you pack on fat faster than you’d ever believe possible and allow you to thumb your nose and poke your tongue out at every personal trainer or diet guru who ever promised you a rapid result from following their plans.

Follow just one or two of them for even a short time and you’ll see a rapid softening of the waistline and an appreciable gain in scale-weight. Follow them all and you’ll gain so much weight that you’ll be stunned by the reflection staring back at you within a month.

Give it a go!

Note: If you’re one of those wierdo’s who feel that you’d like to take the extreme approach of actually losing bodyfat then just reverse the rules above to see equally rapid fat loss… I don’t know why you’d want to though!

Mental Health: Knowing When To Get Help

By: aseya

Some people can get so depressed or problematic that they even reach a point where they question their own sanity. Many people actually wonder if they have really “gone over the edge.”

How about you? Try to answer these questions:

Do you have feelings of sadness or irritability? Has there been a loss of interest in pleasurable activities that you once enjoyed? Have you noticed any weight loss or change in your appetite? Have you noticed changes in your sleeping pattern? Are you feeling guilty? Are you experiencing difficulty in concentrating, remembering things or making decisions? Have you had thoughts of suicide or death? If you answered “yes” to most of these questions, consider consulting your family physician as your mental health maybe at risk.

Mental health, as defined by the Surgeon General's Report on Mental Health, “refers to the successful performance of mental function, resulting in productive activities, fulfilling relationships with other people, and the ability to adapt to change and cope with adversity.” On the other end of the flow is mental illness, a term that refers to all “mental disorders.”

Mental disorders are health conditions that are characterized by alterations in thinking, mood, or behavior associated with distress or impaired functioning. This notion of a continuum sees mental health on one end as “successful mental functioning” compared to mental illness on the other end as “impaired functioning.”

Mental health is how we think, feel, and act as we cope with life. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Like physical health, mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Everyone feels worried, anxious, sad or stressed sometimes. But with a mental illness, these feelings do not go away and are severe enough to interfere with daily life. It can make it hard to meet and keep friends, hold a job, or enjoy life.

Mental illnesses are quite common and affect about one in five families in the U.S. These disorders such as depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and many others are real diseases that one cannot get away from. Fortunately, they are often treatable. Medicines and therapy can improve the life of most people with mental illnesses. But, it is more cost-effective to have a physician prescribe mood stabilizers instead of seeing a psychiatrist. However, follow doctor's instructions on counseling and referrals to mental health professionals.

People who are emotionally and mentally healthy are in control of their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. They feel good about themselves and have good relationships. They can keep problems in perspective. It's important to remember that people who have good emotional health sometimes have emotional problems or mental illness. Mental illness often has a physical cause, such as a chemical imbalance in the brain. Stress and problems with family, work, or school can sometimes trigger mental illness or make it worse. If you feel that you or someone you care about is at risk, ask for help, it may not be easy at first, but there are ways and steps that may save your own or someone else’s life.

What is Diabetes and how can you control it?

By: John Smith

After eating, the food we eat is broken down into sugar (glucose) through the process of digestion. This sugar then enters the bloodstream so that it can be delivered throughout the body, where it is called blood sugar. Insulin, which helps metabolize blood sugar and is made in the pancreas, takes blood sugar from the bloodstream and delivers it into the body’s cells. This sugar provides energy to the cells in organs such as our heart, lungs, and kidneys, which help function properly.

Type 1 diabetes, also called insulin-dependant or juvenile diabetes, occurs when the pancreas no longer makes insulin. This is because the immune system becomes confused and begins attacking and destroying the cells in the pancreas that produce the insulin. Instead of going into the cells where it is needed, the sugar stays in the blood. Often beginning in childhood, people with Type 1 diabetes have to take a least one shot of insulin each day in order to stay alive.

The most common kind of diabetes, which often starts in overweight adults with high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels, is Type 2 diabetes. Although the pancreas is usually producing enough insulin in Type 2 diabetes, the body does not use the insulin effectively. In this type of diabetes, the cells do not respond to the insulin’s attempt to enter with glucose, so in turn, the pancreas produces more and more insulin. Because the cells do not respond, high levels of glucose build up in the blood, causing Type 2 diabetes. Once the pancreas senses that the insulin isn’t needed, it eventually stops making it. People with Type 2 diabetes often need to take prescription drugs to lower there blood sugar levels.

In both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, the sugar stays in the bloodstream rather than going into the cells where it is needed. After it builds up in the blood, it causes the cells to be starved for energy and, after a long time, damage to the blood vessels, nerves, eyes, and kidneys. Type 1 diabetes, which develops very quickly, can be recognized by symptoms including: frequent urination, intense thirst, increased hunger, and weight loss. Type 2 diabetes, on the other hand, develops very gradually without any symptoms at all. Unfortunately, Type 2 diabetes is usually only diagnosed after the occurrence of a complication, such as circulation problems, nerve damage, eye problems, or kidney damage.

All of these complications are caused by high blood sugar levels; however, most of them can be prevented. The longer these blood sugar levels are elevated, the greater the risk for having complications is. Because high blood sugar levels damage blood vessels, they eventually become thicker and less flexible. This causes poor circulation which can complicate healing. These high blood sugar levels also cause higher levels of fat in the bloodstream, which clogs and narrows blood vessels. This partial blockage will deprive the heart of necessary nutrients, resulting in a heart attack, heart pain, or a stroke. Because high blood sugars can cause nerve damage, a person with Type 2 diabetes may lose feeling in parts of their body or have a painful pins-and-needles-like feeling. Diabetes can also damage and weaken blood vessels in the retina, which causes them to leak fluid, resulting in a swelling in the eye, which will blur vision. Since the blood vessels are so fragile, they can break open and bleed into the eye, which will cause scar tissue to form, along with the possibility of the retina to break away from the back of the eye, resulting in visual impairment, or even blindness. The blood vessels in the kidneys can also be damaged, preventing it from filtering out the body’s waste. The longer the blood sugar levels are left uncontrolled, the greater the amount of kidney damage that can occur. If the kidney damage isn’t stopped, a kidney transplant or dialysis machine may eventually be needed.

All of these complications can be prevented through vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements, which keep people with diabetes healthy and provide powerful tools that prevent the serious complications from occurring. The most helpful nutritional supplement should contain powerful vitamins, minerals, and herbs in a synergistic formula that can lower blood sugars effectively and provide nutrients which people with diabetes need. The supplement should be taken twice a day in addition to a high quality multivitamin. Because a diabetic formula is complementary, it means it should be taken in addition to your multivitamin, not as a replacement.
Since diabetes is a disease that requires active participation, you must be aware of your problem and be in control of it as much as possible. If you use a home glucose monitor to check your blood sugars, you may feel more comfortable checking your glucose levels more often when you first begin the diabetic formula supplement. However, you should always follow your doctor’s recommendation as to how often you should check your blood sugar levels. According to most licensed health care practitioners, a good blood sugar range for most people with diabetes before a meal is from about 70-150, ideally between 70 and 120. By taking a supplement formulated especially for diabetics, your blood sugars should be right where they are recommended. Successful diabetes management means doing lost of positive things, among these include visiting your licensed health care practitioner often, choosing foods wisely and staying active, and taking a diabetic formula supplement, but remember, this diabetic formula supplement is meant to be an addition to a healthy diet, not a substitute.

Natural Bodybuilding Diet Plans

Gain Weight And Muscle Mass While Minimizing Fat

While most of us who practice bodybuilding are trying to lose fat as we gain muscle, there are some people who are interested in just bulking up; which in simple terms means eating more and training heavier in order to gain muscle weight.

Contrary to popular belief, an effective natural body building diet requires you to increase your intake not just of protein, but of carbohydrates and fats as well. It is also important to eat big portions of your natural body building diet during the morning and after working out. These are the times when your body is most receptive to the nutrients.

It is also at these times that your body needs the most energy after having been depleted. It is also necessary to eat a small healthy meal an hour or so prior to exercising so that you can have energy during your workout.

1. Carbohydrates

In a natural body building diet, it is recommended that you increase your intake of carbohydrates. Approximately 1.5-2 grams of carbohydrates is suggested for every pound you weigh.

Carbohydrates also increase your energy level. A higher energy level means you have more strength to work out and keep your body in shape.

In a natural body building diet, it is not just important to watch the amount of carbohydrates you consume. It is also important that you look at the kinds of carbohydrates you take in. For a natural body building diet, it is recommended that you take low glycemic carbohydrates, which are carbohydrates that are slowly digested by the body.

Some researches revealed that the intake of low glycemic carbohydrates keeps the energy level up while maintaining the blood sugar levels and lowering your appetite. Foods rich in low glycemic carbohydrates that you may opt to add in your natural body building diet include oatmeal, brown rice and sweet potatoes.

2. Protein

Of course, it is also important to increase your protein intake when undergoing a body building diet. Approximately 1.5 grams of protein is recommended for every pound you weigh. Make sure that the proteins you take come from lean sources with low fat, such as chicken, lean red meat, turkey and tuna.

3. Fats

When undergoing a natural body building diet, you do not have to take all the fats out of your diet. Fats are important in keeping the integrity of cell membranes and for the production of hormones. Approximately 1.5-3 tablespoons of essential fats are recommended every day.

Choose good fats in your natural body building diet. Unsaturated fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids, are beneficial for the body. Sources of good fats include fish oils and olive oils.

4. Supplements

Most natural body building diets require no supplements. If you want to use supplements, you should pick one with all the necessary vitamins and minerals that are made from natural products.

5. Eat Often

Small meals throughout the idea are the ideal strategy for a natural bodybuilding diet. Gone are the days of a big breakfast, big lunch and bigger dinner. This will do nothing but weigh you down and tire you out, and encourage unhealthy snacking.

I like to eat 6 small meals per day, including a large breakfast since it really is the most important meal of the day. Without a solid breakfast you will not have the energy to grow those muscles.

I don't like to eat a large dinner, nor do I snack late at night. Doing this will ensure that your fat increases and that’s the last thing you want!

If you follow the basic principals of a natural bodybuilding diet, your workout routines will benefit greatly and your gains will come faster and bigger!

As far as natural bodybuilding workout is concerned, carry out the basic exercises, that people have been doing till now and never commit the mistake of over training, because excess of everything is bad, so, go slow and steady. Each muscle needs to be worked, but only once per week. So, if you work on the same muscle again in a week and that too at the expense of some other muscle, then it won't do any good to your body. So, adopt natural bodybuilding and give it your best shot and the success would be undoubtedly yours.

Natural Diabetic Diet

By: Darrell Miller-1603

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that occurs when the beta cells of the pancreas are unable to produce an adequate amount of insulin to prevent hyperglycemia. Type 1 diabetes is usually caused by autoimmune destruction of the pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin. There is no known preventative measure that can be used against type 1 diabetes, as most people affected are otherwise healthy when onset occurs. Diet and exercise cannot reverse or prevent this type of diabetes. While this type of diabetes can affect both children and adults, it has a nickname of “juvenile diabetes” because the majority of its cases are found in children. Type 2 is a tissue-wide insulin resistance that occurs due to a combination of defective insulin secretion and insulin resistance. It is usually first treated by attempts to change physical activity, diet, and weight loss. These measures can restore insulin sensitivity, allowing type 2 diabetics to regain satisfactory glucose control for years. Both type 1 and 2 are incurable chronic conditions. However, they have been treatable ever since insulin became medically available and are usually managed today with a combination of dietary treatment, tablets, and insulin supplementation. Diabetes causes many complications in its victims. Acute complications may occur if the disease is not looked over and controlled sufficiently enough. Serious long-term complications including cardiovascular disease, chronic renal failure, retinal damage, nerve damage, and micro vascular damage, which may cause erectile dysfunction and poor healing, are often a result of inadequate treatment of this disease. However, adequate treatment of diabetes, along with an increased watch on blood pressure control and lifestyle factors, may improve the risk profile of the above mentioned complications.

Many diabetics have trouble controlling their blood sugar. Even those who exercise regularly are still confused about what and how much they should be eating. The longer you deal with diabetes, the easier it will become for you to manage the disease. Although regulating your blood sugar can be complicated, it is not impossible. There are many variables that affect blood sugar, including mood, stress, infection, illness, and sleep disturbances. Because blood sugar regulation isn’t an exact science, you should meet with your doctor or dietician regularly to plan a diet customized especially for you. Be sure to ask them questions, let them know your habits, and check in with your doctor to let him or her know your progress along with any problems you may be encountering. It is a good idea to keep a food journal in which you document the kinds of foods you eat along with the serving sizes and your after-meal blood sugar levels plus any other helpful information your doctor may need. Make sure to be specific because the more information you give your doctor and the better they will be at helping you. Visiting with an herbalist or alternative care doctor could be a good idea too. They will be able to tell you with vitamins, minerals, herbal supplements, and alternative treatments that may help alleviate your symptoms. There are numerous cookbooks that give guidelines on serving sizes for diabetics. There are also a lot of new computer programs that help diabetics plan their diets and calculate the amount of food to eat. If you are able to access the internet, there are also many sites online which can help diabetics including diabetes.org, diabetes.com, diabetes-net.com, diabetic-lifestyle.com, diabeticdiet.net, and diabeticgourmet.com.

Our Skin Never Forgets

By Dr. Simor

The end of winter, no more short, cold and dark days. Spring is finally here and summer is fast approaching. Hot days and lots of sunshine. But not all fun and sun.

The hot sun can pose a great danger for our skin and our children’s skin. In fact, one of the most important factors for feeling young and healthy is the way we take care of our skin during the summer months.

Skin Cancer

Over the last century, ever-increasing rates of skin cancer have taken some of the greatest tolls on all age groups, young and old. Yet most people don’t realize that skin cancer is a very preventable form of skin cancer, and, that if recognized early enough, is very treatable.

The simple fact is, if we take care of our skin during the summer, we can dramatically reduce the chances of ever getting skin cancer in the first place. The chance of getting skin cancer is directly related to the amount of sunlight we expose our skin to, especially during the summer. Furthermore, it has been shown that going to the solarium on a regular basis is also a risk for the development of skin cancer.

What Causes It

Overexposure to UV A and B light from the sun and the solarium damages skin cells. UV A light in spite of its lower energy, is received by the body in much larger doses, and penetrates into the skin easily causing damage. UV light mainly affects the skin and underlying connective tissues by decreasing the quantities of collagen and elastic fibers present in these tissues. With passing time, the skin becomes more wrinkled and flaccid. One of the most important factors in the pathogenesis of cancer is the fact that the absorbed UV light breaks down water molecules and induces the formation of free-oxygen radicals, which are toxic to certain elements of the skin.

For those of us who have a light or very fair complexion, (type I skin tone) avoidance of the sun and solarium as much as possible is recommended. The rest of us should adjust the amount of sun (UV light) exposure to our proper skin tones.

Skin Type

The reason it's important to know what type of skin tone you have is because the lighter the skin, the less it is capable of dealing with the damaging elements of the sunlight and thus, more the skin needs to be protected.

It’s not difficult to determine what your skin type is. There are six types and by using the scale below, you can determine for yourself how much skin protection you may need.

- Skin type I never turns brown, only burns.
- Skin type II browns very slowly and easily burns.
- Skin type III browns easily and rarely burns.
- Skin type IV is typical of that of southern Europeans (Mediterranean type).
- Skin type V is slightly pigmented similar to those living in India.
- Skin type VI is black.

If you fall into either of the first two categories, your skin must be protected at all times from the dangerous effects of the sun!!!!!

Types of Cancer - What You Need To Understand

Skin cancer can be broken down into Melanoma- and non-Melanoma types. The latter consists of both squamous cell- and basal cell skin cancer. Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. The proliferation of pigmented skin cells anywhere in the body can, if not diagnosed and treated early, cause death. The frequency of Melanoma around the world is increasing at very rapid rates!!

Squamous cell type of skin cancer is also a malignant form of skin cancer that is directly related to the amount of sun exposure and can quickly spread to other parts of the body. Basal cell type skin cancer is not malignant and thus wont spread to other parts of the body. However, there is local destruction of the affected skin areas and thus excision of the lesion is a must.

How To Protect My Skin

Well, you may ask how do I protect myself from the dangers of the skin cancer? The answers may not be as difficult to follow as you may think. First and foremost, always protect skin of young children and kids. Their skins are sensitive to sun exposure and burning the skin only increases the risk in later years of developing cancer. It is important to remember that the many years of continuous sun exposure increase the chance of getting skin cancer. In other words, the skin doesn’t forget!! Sporadic sun exposure is more than enough to guarantee a nice brown skin color and the proper production of vitamin D in the body.

If someone wants to get a quick tan, than be sure to use self-browning creams, but remember, they wont protect your skin from sun overexposure and burning. Carotin derivative products have been shown to protect the skin from within and in general have an anti-cancer effect.

During the hot months, a good rule of thumb is to avoid strong sun exposure in the middle of the day, say between 2 and 3 pm, when the sun is hottest. Try to stay in the shade as much as possible and when going into the sun, put on a hat, sunglasses and a shirt just to be sure. Sun tanning protective creams are also a must. A wide spectrum UV protection and a minimum factor of 15 should be applied to the skin at all times for maximum protection. But remember, the best protection from skin cancer is to avoid the exposure to the skin.

Quick Action Is The Key

Finally, and equally important, is that we recognize on ourselves any first signs of potential cancer. Especially be aware of any small wounds or scars on the skin that don’t seem to heal after a month or so. Be aware of skin moles that suddenly begin to itch, bleed, peel, grow, change color or become painful. In any of the above instances, be sure to contact your dermatologist immediately for a full check up. Remember, early diagnosis and treatment along with regular screening is the best way to ensure many happy, healthy summers to come.

Losing Weight - The Best Time of the Year ?

By :William (Bill) White

When is the best time of the year to lose weight? Anytime that you need to is the answer. There is little doubt that starting a weight loss regime in the dark days of winter is not the best time as many of us suffer a low period during this time and we may not be able to cope as well mentally as we would in the brighter days of spring and summer.

Imagine the scene, late December, office parties or out with friends, Christmas holiday and New Year parties. We overindulge and the beginning of January we realise that we really do need to get our bodies back into some shape. Other things take over and before we know it the first signs of spring are in the air. Suddenly that fine figure in the mirror does not really look that good especially when pictured in the summer on the beach. Panic!

Weight loss is a big issue these days and it is not difficult to find books, fitness DVDs and videos, not to mention the deluge of magazine articles that both sexes are bombarded with. How often in early spring do you see plastered across the front of a magazine or taking up several internal pages promises of a quick weight loss fix. Then there are the celebrity following journals that always seem to be documenting the latest and crazy faddy diet being followed by your favourite celeb. Total information overload. It is no wonder most of us become confused and disillusioned when we find we cannot achieve the promised weight loss let alone in the timescale suggested.

Your weight loss program does not have to be rocket science combined with a draconian exercise regime. Eat healthy food in moderate amounts, combine it with gentle exercise and you will feel better mentally and physically. Look for a weight loss program that helps you to control your intake of good food and not some expensive and fancy concoction and definitely does not include some magic pill or potion.

What about shedding those unwanted pounds ready for the beach? Don't set the bar too high this year, accept that there will be the odd bit around the middle that you would prefer not to show but instead make a conscious effort to make a lifestyle change. Then next year you can make a great impression as you stroll onto the beach and still look and feel healthy.

William (Bill) White of Start to Diet (http://www.start-to-diet.com) writes on subjects relating to weight loss, healthy diet and healthy lifestyle.

Women And Weight Loss

By: Aditi Miscall

Women, to put it bluntly, are biologically different from men. Those differences imply some guidelines for diet, exercise and health matters in general.

Women, for example, naturally have a higher percentage of body fat than men, 27% on average compared to 15% for a fit individual. That single number alone is helpful information if one of your weight loss or exercise goals is fat reduction. Any woman trying to reduce her percentage should take into account this natural difference, since it can help avoid guilt and provide a realistic goal.

Women experience hormonal changes that differ considerably from that of men as they age. Even young women can have irregularities in menstrual cycle and other physiological changes as a result. This can be seen more clearly by looking at some extreme cases, for example.

Women in concentration camps in WWII frequently discontinued having regular menstrual cycles, as a result of the effects of starvation. Highly trained female athletes also often experience similar changes, as a result of ultra-low body fat and other causes.

The ill effects of PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) can be reduced by stabilizing blood sugar levels, regulating fat intake and other dietary changes. For example, mood swings can be smoothed out to a degree by higher amounts of soluble fiber, which helps produce a slower rise in blood sugar. Apples, oats and beans are good sources.

Combining fat with protein and carbohydrate intake in a balanced way will help slow the rise in blood sugar from the carbohydrate consumption. Ice cream may be a comfort food but the effect is short-lived and doesn't provide the balance needed. Instead, increase consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables. Bananas are a good choice, along with walnuts.

Women are more prone to arthritis, fibromyalgia and other conditions. Certain previously unsuspected food allergies can worsen the symptoms. Testing is essential, but at the same time a healthy diet will help. Rice beverages can be substituted for those sensitive to cows milk, there are wheat-free breads on the market that are still whole grain and peanuts may need to be avoided for some.

For example some women who suffer from rheumatic symptoms will find they are allergic to wheat. A gluten-free diet will help lessen that problem. This includes finding substitutes for ordinary cereal, standard bread, pasta and other foods made from wheat flour.

During the years of menopause, as cycles become less regular and large hormonal changes are occurring, diet can help lessen the severity of any discomfort. Lowering sodium intake is helpful. Substitutes include herbs, garlic or lemon juice for flavoring. Each individual is different, though, and you should consult a physician for proper amounts.

Menopausal women are likely to benefit from reducing saturated fats, beyond that of younger women or males. Since estrogen levels are declining, HDL cholesterol (the beneficial type) will tend to fall and LDL cholesterol (the potentially harmful type) will rise.

One result is that, though men in general have a higher risk of heart attack as they age, during this time a woman's risk is equal to those of men of similar age. Reducing saturated and trans fat can help reduce those risks.

Moderate wine consumption is beneficial. It provides anti-oxidants and other helpful compounds and is generally lower in calories than many alternatives. Lowering caffeine can help reduce loss of calcium, which is more needed as women age.

What constitutes a proper diet varies somewhat by gender and age, so investigate what is right for your particular circumstances. Knowledge is the key to health.

5 Easy Ways To Keep Skin Healthy And Avoid Acne Blemish

By Del Erben

So often, the simplest instructions are overlooked as we jump to the most expensive solutions. If you are suffering from acne and/or other blemishes you may be inclined to go out and purchase Proactive or one of the other pricey acne blemish treatments advertised on late night infomercials. Before you do you may want to try the following solutions. Ironically, some have found them to not only be cheaper but more effective than Proactive.

1. Over-washing can increase oil and irritate problem skin. Facial scrubs should be limited to 2-3 per week so as to give your skin time to create new cells.

2. Drink plenty of water as water hydrates your body and skin, which is extremely important in particular for anyone with dry skin. Try to drink water processed through Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit (ROWPU).

3. Take supplements. A good multi-vitamin and vitamin E are great for the skin and overall health but stay away from mega doses as research does not prove out that there is extra benefit from doing so. You will only waste your money and in the case of Vitamin E, you can reach levels of toxicity. Oh, and don't forget to get the Omega 3 Fatty Acids. The best way to do this is 1 gram a day of pharmaceutical grade fish oil.

4. A twenty minute aerobic exercise 5 times a week, preferably in the AM. Make sure you are sweating, the natural cooling system for the body as well as a great means to rid the skin of impurities.

5. Acne and blemish proof your face. Only use lotions without alcohol and try to periodically clean out your pores with 5-10 minutes of steam in order to alleviate the body toxin build up and open the pores to breath again

Well, that's it for now. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Take care of you today. You deserve the best.

There are two main possible ways of inducing a reduction in body fat. One is by reducing food intake or food absorption and the other is by enhancing energy expenditure. Yerba Slim Weight Loss Pills combines a variety of herbal ingredients that maximize your body's ability to absorb food and increase energy expenditure. This allows you to loose weight naturally, without starving diet programs or excessive workouts.

One way to reduce energy intake and absorption is through thermogenic formulas such as the ingredients found in Yerba Slim Weight Loss Pills . Thermogenesis is a term referring to the body's production of heat. Heat production is a normal part of the metabolic process. Nutritional substances can also stimulate thermogenesis. Thermogenesis, when not simply needed for routine food digestion and metabolism, is both a source of heat and when stimulated through appropriate dietary supplementation, a mechanism to increase metabolic rate. Fuel for this increased metabolic rate can be provided by stored body fat. The ingredients in Yerba Slim Weight Loss Pills assist in the thermogenic processes allowing you to naturally and safely burn fat and loose unwanted weight.

Before fat can be burned it must be broken down into small particles to free fatty acids and glycerol. This process is called Lipolysis . Hormones like cathecolamines and chemical compounds like xanthines found in the Yerba Slim Weight Loss Pills formula have lipolytic activity. These ingredients aid in lipolysis allowing your body to breakdown fat and turn it into energy. Daniel Mowrey, Ph.D. states that Yerba Mate, a main ingredient in Yerba Slim Weight Loss Pills , possesses the best combination of xanthine properties possible.

Yerba Slim Weight Loss Pills is an all natural herbal formulated thermogenic weight loss supplement. It assists in the bodies ability to absorb food and expend energy, resulting in safe and effective weight loss.

Yerba Slim Weight Loss Pills contains Vitamin B6, Yerba Mate, Green Tea, Guarana, White Willow and Cayenne. Other Ingredients: Gelatin, Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide, Rice Flour, Water.

Diabetes In General

By: Janice Lockeby

There are three different types of diabetes that are very common today. Diabetes effects millions of people around the world and it can be a life threatening disease if it is not properly treated or treated in time. Many people may not even know that they have diabetes. That is why it is so important to talk to your doctor about your family history and get regular checkups with your doctor.

Getting the right medications for your health conditions is very important. With the right medicines and a good exercise program, along with a good diet, you should be able to take care of yourself with only some limitations. Being able to lead a normal life after being diagnosed with diabetes is very important and with the right care it should not be a problem for you.

Some people are choosing to only try natural remedies, which can benefit your diabetes symptoms almost as well as a prescribed medicine, but others may not have a choice but to have insulin injections, sometimes as often as six times per day. Listening to your health care physician is vital after being diagnosed with diabetes. He will be able to assist you on what types of medicines that you will need. He will also talk to you more about which kind of exercise program you will need to start on. And, of course, your diet which is vital to maintain.

After being diagnosed with diabetes you will have to monitor your blood sugar levels every single day. Your doctor might even ask you to keep a journal on these daily readings so that he will have the ability to view them upon your follow up visits. This will keep him informed on your progress and allow him to make any slight adjustments that may be needed to your medications. He will be able to determine by these daily readings if your medications, diet and exercise program are helping you as much as they should be. If not, then he will know what needs to be done from there. It is important to keep up with this kind of information for him so you will have the proper treatments.

Different Types of Diabetes

There are three different types of diabetes that are very common today.

Type1 Type2 Gestational

When a woman becomes pregnant she will find that during the last trimester of her pregnancy her doctor will be checking her for what is called gestational diabetes. Usually if a woman is diagnosed with this type of diabetes during pregnancy, after giving birth, their glucose levels will go back to normal. The risk of diabetes is still there, up to 10 years after delivery or if she has a family history of diabetes. If a woman develops this type of diabetes during her pregnancy, her child will be at higher risk of becoming diabetic sometime throughout their life.

The most common type of diabetes is Type 2 diabetes. This is the kind of diabetes where the patient is not dependent on insulin shots. Being overweight has a lot to do with someone getting this type of diabetes, however, that is not the only thing to blame for it. With some people it may be genetic while with others it is caused by a high blood pressure level. Becoming physically active can help when treating this type of diabetes, along with a proper diet and medicine that your doctor will prescribe. He can give you an exercise program to follow along with the right kinds of food you should be eating. Number one rule is-follow your doctors orders fully.

The other kind of diabetes is Type 1 diabetes. This type is usually caused by pure genetics or your diet. This type of diabetes means that you are insulin dependent. Depending on the severity of this type of diabetes will determine how many shots you will need each and every day. As with the other types of diabetes it is vital that you put yourself on a regular exercise program along with a proper diet. Seeing your doctor on a regular basis in absolutely necessary on order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The patients pancreas is not producing any amount of insulin at all and that is the reason it is called autoimmune diabetes. It is the most dangerous if not treated properly.

Enjoying Sweets With Your Diabetes

Many people believe that people with diabetes can not, in any way, have the enjoyments of indulging occasionally or ever, in getting to eat sweets. Those of you who are suffering with diabetes, if you do not already know, will be very happy to hear that you can in fact enjoy those sweet pleasures once in awhile. It is all about moderation, not just for people suffering from diabetes, but for everyone. The problem with any foods that are bad for us, is that so many of us eat entirely too much.

Studies have shown that people with diabetes that do enjoy the occasional sweets do have to worry about their blood sugars rising a little bit too quickly, but that also happens with any kinds of fatty carbohydrate foods that a diabetic might eat. I am not telling all diabetics to go out and get sweets anytime they please but just that if you choose to, if you crave it, if you feel like you need it, go for it, just do not over indulge yourself too much ok. It is important to keep your blood sugar in check at all times when you have diabetes.

If you do decide you want sweets one evening, just plan for the occasion, eat less carbohydrates throughout the day to give your body a fair shot at a tasty treat. Just remember to watch your portions. If you are creating your own special sweets then perhaps you could consider substituting the real sugar for one of the new substitues . You really cannot tell the difference between the new substitutes and the real sugar if used as directed. You can satisfy some of your cravings some of the time if you are careful aboutwhat you eat and how much.

Drinking Coffee For Diabetes

Now for the really good news for coffee drinkers. It has been discovered that drinking caffeine coffee actually reduces your risks of becoming a diabetic and it also helps in the many types of treatments for people who have type 2 diabetes. Many people may not be aware of this, so you should all consider doing a little research on the ways that coffee can actually help your health and talk it over with your family doctor. Several studies have been done on whether or not this is really accurate and the results are overwhelming in the ways that coffee can actually help your health. Usually women have more of a resistance to insulin than men do, so women may benefit from this knowledge more than anyone else. The fact of the matter is that with these studies, they have actually found that the risks for diabetes is going down somewhat with the increase of coffee consumption. Many people might be really happy with these findings because drinking coffee is something that many people all around the world enjoy, usually on an everyday basis.
If you are suffering from type 2 diabetes, drinking coffee several times a day will help with your insulin secretion because of the effects coffee has on your gastrointestinal hormones throughout your body. You can lower your glucose absorption rate and lessen your chances of futher complications by having a cup of coffee daily. Not only does your consumption of caffeine coffees help reduce your risks of diabetes and helps in treating some diabetes, it will also help in controlling a woman's cholesterol levels.

Good Health Means Skin Health

By: Kathy Wright

Skin cancer is a big topic today and skin cancer typically occurs in skin that is photo aged or damaged by the sun. Wrinkles, laxity, uneven pigmentation, brown spots and a leathery appearance are signs of photo damaged skin. The contrast, skin of a chronologically aged person that has been protected from the sun and cared for internally is thin and has a reduced elasticity, but is otherwise smooth and unblemished. How do you get to your later years with this healthy skin? *Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, *Drink plenty of water-8-12, 8 oz glasses a day, *Use natural sun block on skin, * Eat plenty of healthy, vitamin-rich foods, *Avoid smoking, *Avoid excessive drinking of alcohol, * Eliminate process foods and high fat foods from your diet, * Use natural skin care products; no mineral oil or petroleum products on the skin. You must take care of your skin on a daily basis to prevent signs of aging that leads to cancer on the skin. The sooner the better, it is easier to prevent damage than reverse the damage. Your body is always regenerating itself, and given the right treatment, you can reverse damage. The sooner you start the better.
• Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
• Drink plenty of water- 8-12, 8oz glasses a day.
• Use natural sun block for skin and hair.
• Eat plenty of healthy, vitamin-rich foods, as many vegetables as you can each day.
• Avoid smoking.• Avoid excessive drinking of alcohol.
• Eliminate process foods from your diet.
• Eliminate high fat foods from your diet.
• Use natural skin care products; no mineral oil or petroleum products on the skin.

Let me help you understand what I mean when I say eat healthy foods. I started improving my diet 30 years ago in 1976; the difference in my health and the health of my family and friends who still consume fast foods, soft drinks, and processes foods is unmistakable. Women's health is at great risk because of the lack of quality foods and the consumption of process high fat foods. I am evidence and know others well over my age of 53 that are in great heath and physical condition. My weight is stable even though I have gone thru menopause. My energy is high even though I am over 50, I feel as good as I did at 30 and did I mention I have birthed and raised five children? Eat as many vegetables as you can in a day is too vague. Eat vegetables at every meal. If you are traveling and you have a chance to eat a salad for breakfast, do it. Eat at least two vegetables with lunch and dinner and snack on vegetables. When you are home be sure to keep carrots, celery, broccoli and cauliflower available to snack on. Eliminate chips, soft drinks or other high sugar foods from your home. If you are reclaiming your health or preserving your health let your friends and family know and ask them to join you.

When I started 30 years ago this information was not so available as it is today. Everywhere you look if you become conscious of this conversation you will see support for your wellness. I have a complaint with the health care industry. I prefer to call it disease care when you are taught to manage your disease not to preserve your health. It is possible to avoid inherited diseases of your family and preserve you health before disease strikes and I am committed to announcing this to the world. Take charge and have your health for the rest of your life. Take this as an inspiration today and look for other daily inspirations that move you to understand new levels of health. Make a commitment to find an article daily, that confirms your commitment to great health for the rest of your life.

If you look around ,you will see everywhere there are support systems to equip you in your quest for health and wellness. I want this article to motivate and inspire you in the direction of health and personal power. I know if you have physical health it is more likely you will have spiritual and emotional health as well. Start today! Get health.

Find a good reason, your reason to preserve your health. If it is beauty, family, passion, health, spirituality, even emotional stability; they are all connected. Start today and live your life committed to your reason. I am committed to your growth and health. Let is start today with your commitment. frownies.com/tips

7 Weight Loss Tips

By: J. De La Cruz

The hard part of a diet its the motivation issue. The constant cycle of putting on weight, losing weight, putting on weight and losing weight can become tiresome and demotivating.

The following tips come from courses and seminars to help you get rid of weight and find that weight loss motivation.

Tip 1 - Know what you want

Make sure you know exactly how much weight you want to get rid of. Some weight just doesn't cut it, so have an exact figure of what your target weight is and how much you are losing.

Tip 2 - Stay off the scales

Don't weigh yourself every day, it'll dent your weight loss motivation and frustrate you. Instead, pick one day a week when you are going to weigh yourself and weigh yourself every day at the same time (I usually recommend Monday's as you may be at your heaviest after the weekends excesses!).

Tip 3 - Measure yourself

Often weight loss isn't immediately noticeable through weight, but is more obvious through inches lost. so, measure your chest, waist, hips and thighs and save your results.

Tip 4 - Track your progress

Motivation comes from seeing results, so track your weight loss and your measurements shrinking and you will find yourself being more motivated to lose weight.

Tip 5 - Eat regularly

Most dieters think that by skipping meals they are going to lose weight quickly. NO! It doesn't work like that. If you skip meals then your body starts to think there's a famine coming, which means your body piles on the fat to survive the famine. Eat regular meals.

Tip 6 - Don't Deny Yourself

Many dieters will deny themselves anything naughty such as chocolate, cakes and so on. Trouble is, when you deny yourself something, you want it more. So instead CHOOSE not to have it, because then you are in control. Occasionally, you may choose to have it, which is great too.

Tip 7 - Drink, drink, drink

And no, I don't mean alcohol. I mean yummy, delicious water. Drink plenty of it as it will flush toxins from your body and help keep you healthy. The experts recommend that you should drink at least 2 liters (just over 4 pints) of water every single day. Avoid caffeinated drinks and fizzy soda's as these don't help quench your thirst or remove the toxins from your system.

These seven tips for weight loss motivation and success will help you to rapidly lose weight with the minimum of trouble.

Skin care - Health Tips for Anti Aging

By: Frank

I walked into the hospital room. She lay on her bed with tubes running from her arms and electrodes taped to her chest. Equipment at the side of the room recorded her heartbeat and blood pressure.

She looked up at me and said, “I know you.” I smiled. She studied my face for a few moments. Finally she said, “Yes, I know you. You’re my son Billy!”

That was my mother about a month before she died. She was 85 years old. She had had Alzheimer disease, the most common cause of dementia.

The chances of having dementia rise as you get older. By age 85, about 35 out of 100 people have it1. After watching my mother I hoped I could figure out how to fit into the sixty five percent who grow old with a strong, active brain.

The Brain’s Functions

The brain is your body’s control center. It controls the autonomic nervous system, those automatic activities such as respiration, digestion, and heartbeat. It controls the somatic nervous system which activates your sense organs and muscles. It also controls conscious activities such as reasoning, abstraction, decision making and thought. It defines your characteristics and personality. Your brain controls every activity in your body.

As you age, your brain begins to function at a slower pace. It also takes longer to rejuvenate. Your lifestyle, as well as other external factors, will affect your brain’s aging process. The good news is there are ways to enhance the power of your brain as time catches up with you. The following are four ways to help slow your brain’s aging process.

1. Live a Healthy Life

The second most common cause of dementia is atherosclerosis, or in simple terms, hardening of the arteries in the brain. This is known as vascular dementia, accounting for as many as 40% of cases. Vascular dementia has been linked to high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, heart disease, diabetes and related conditions. Most experts feel that treating these underlying conditions can decrease the odds of contracting vascular dementia or, if a person already has it, can slow its progress. These diseases are often accelerated by smoking, excessive drinking and both prescription and recreational drug use.

Smoking is bad for your health. It is also bad for your brain. A study conducted in the Netherlands followed 7,000 people age 55 and older for an average of seven years. During that time, 706 of the participants developed dementia. Smokers were found to be fifty percent more likely to develop dementia than people who had never smoked or had quit before participating in the study.

Alcohol abuse has been linked to15 to 25 percent of all dementia cases2. Alcohol affects the brain directly as a neurotoxin and is the cause of serious long term negative effects on the central nervous system. Alcohol abuse can lead to malnutrition, vitamin deficiencies and can also cause liver damage. Studies show that these can lead to brain shrinkage and brain damage.

Illegal drugs can also cause dementia. Cocaine affects circulation and has been shown to cause small strokes. Heroin, if taken for long periods of time or in older people, can block the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which is involved with learning and memory.

2. Eat Healthy Foods.

As a general rule, good nutrition for the body is also good for the brain. Healthy eating has been shown to reduce the risk of many chronic diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis, cancer and heart disease. It also increases your chances of living a fuller, longer life.

To function properly your brain needs top quality fuel. A diet that includes five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, carbohydrates such as whole grain breads, pasta and cereals, as well as fats and protein can provide this for you.

Sometimes called brain food, fish is a rich source of unsaturated fat and protein. A study published in the Archives of Neurology3 found that eating fish at least once a week slowed down the development of dementia in elderly men and women. Overall mental function declined at a rate ten percent slower in these fish eaters when compared to peers who did not eat fish as often. Mental function in elderly men and women who ate fish two or more times a week declined at a rate thirteen percent slower than those who did not eat fish.

One final portion of a healthy diet that many people overlook is drinking plenty of fluids. A dehydrated brain doesn’t think clearly. Remember, plain old water is the healthiest fluid you can drink.

3. Exercise Your Body

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, consisting of 2257 Japanese-American men between 71 and 93 years old, reported that regular exercise can protect against the development of Alzheimer’s disease. The research from a number of organizations including the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Pacific Health Research Institute, also suggests that it is better to exercise throughout your life rather than trying to make up for an unhealthy lifestyle in your later years.

Exercise helps us feel better both physically and emotionally. It can help improve our self image. It also improves our strength and endurance. It decreases body fat, improves movement to joints and muscles and increases the body’s ability to process oxygen. Regular exercise helps reduce depression while reducing the risks of cardiovascular disease.

What kind of exercise program should you engage in? It depends on your particular likes and your body’s physical condition. If you are over forty five and haven’t exercised in a while, you should check with your doctor before beginning any type of exercise program.

Your exercise program should include both cardiovascular and strength building exercises. Cardiovascular exercises are good for your heart. These include walking, swimming, and bicycling and for best results should be done for at least thirty minutes a day, every day. Strength building exercises build your muscles while helping keep your bones dense, reducing the chance of osteoporosis. This can be anything from calisthenics to weight training.

A favorite exercise of mine is Tai Chi, a combination of slow, circular movements. A study by the Harvard Medical School showed that older women who practice Tai Chi regularly experienced a better fitness boost than walking briskly for three hours per week. The study pointed out that this was due to better oxygen utilization.

Tai Chi can help people suffering from arthritis and even osteoporosis. There is some evidence that indicates that the enhanced mind and body connection resulting from the practice of Tai chi can help protect against dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Whether it’s Tai Chi or any other type of exercise the most important thing is to just do it.

4. Reduce Stress

Stress increases your heart rate and blood pressure and can lead to stroke. There are two categories of stress. The first type, acute stress, is also known as the flight or fight reaction where the brain produces chemicals that tell the body to speed up, making it perform more effectively. This is the type of stress you’ll experience when another car pulls out in front of you causing you to hit your brakes suddenly. This type of stress is normal and short-lived.

The second type of stress is known as chronic or long-term stress. This stress is abnormal and long lasting. There is strong evidence that this type of stress actually damages the brain. It occurs when we don't let go of stress. Chronic stress increases the release of stress hormones. Studies have shown that these stress hormones can actually kill nerve cells in animals and can probably do the same in humans.

One method of reducing chronic stress is through exercise. Stress can also be reduced through meditation. Another proven method is through hypnosis. Using the visualization process hypnosis can help a person learn to remain calm and relaxed even while experiencing an event that had been stressful to them in the past.

Whatever method of stress reduction you choose, it’s important to remember that taking steps to reduce chronic stress will improve your overall health. It will also help you sustain your mental abilities.
