Weight Training Tips

By: Frank

Soreness: If you are a beginner, you will experience a certain soreness. It is a good sign because it means your muscles are being stimulated. A hot bath helps. So does rubbing balm before sleeping. But never rub balm or take a painkiller before weight- training. By numbing yourself, you could exercise more intensely than you should and risk further muscle injury. In any, case, always do your next session after 48 hours whether you are sore or not.

Your weight-training needs to done only three times a week. You could fit it on those days that you don't do aerobics - if you wish.

Fatigue: If you experience extreme tiredness the next morning, it means you have overdone; your weight-training. So much so that your muscles are fatigued. At this stage, you may even feel a trifle feverish. Take a 48hour (or longer) break. And decrease your reps during the next session.

Shoulder-pain: Women, in particular could get stiffness or pain in the shoulders. In that case, concentrate on strengthening your shoulders by doing only the upper-back shoulder shrugs. Then, take up weight-training.

Weight-training versus freehand exercises

One thought may have crossed your mind. Why can't I do freehand exercises instead of weight-training? You can. Except that it will take you much longer to - for example - whittle down your waist. And with such slow results, you may give up on them!

Also, you will have to spend much more time in a day to do your freehand exercises to feel exercised. Whereas, with weights, you need to spend only a few minutes per week, for quicker and more dramatic results.

In addition, free hand exercising cal!s for a certain flexibility. We've watched overweight people - in particular- painfully doing their floor exercises. But we've carefully chosen exercises 'which don't require any flexibility. If anything, they give you a bonus - by making you more supple.

Finally, since you can choose to do only the exercises that trim your problem spots, you need never feel exhausted. One last word: If you do get into weight-training, keep your dumbbells and ankle - weights handy. Stashing them away in your cupboard lowers your motivation if you are a laid-back exerciser. Keep them where you can see them. Besides, a neat pair of dumbbells lying' in your living room won't ruin your decor. In fact, they make excellent conversational ice-breakers as visitors are sure to notice and comment on them!

10 Steps To Full Body Detox

By: John Khu

You've done a body detox plan before and notice the results where off not too long afterwards. What's the problem? The deal is that as soon as you stop using your body detox plan, you immediately start putting toxins back in your body. While our focus is on permanent elimination, adapting certain tips in your daily life will help your body stay cleansed. They are as follows:

1. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. This is one of the most basic recommendations. However, the amount is no longer eight glasses a day. The recommended amount is your body weight divided by 2 in oz. of water. For example, if you weigh 100 lbs/2=50 oz of water.

2. While water inside your body is a good way to detox, using water on the outside of your body also helps. Try a hot shower for five minutes, alternating a few times with cold water for 30 seconds. Take a rest for 30 minutes afterwards. This will extend the results of your home body detox.

3. Look for ways to bolster a clean liver with herbal supplements and drinking green tea. Your natural food store can make recommendations. Your liver plays an important role in keeping your body working properly.

4. Eat foods which are naturally detoxifying, such as leafy greens and seaweed. Bulk up on fiber. Try to stick to organic fruits and vegetables. Stay away from caffeine, sugar and nicotine.

5. An OJ a day does keep the doctor away. Actually, juices are high in sugar, but make sure to take plenty of Vitamin C. This helps the liver function also.

6. Sweat it out........literally. Perspiration is one way your body naturally removes waste. Try sweating in a hot tub or sauna to help eliminate toxins.

7. Take a deep breath. The deeper you breathe, the more oxygen circulates in your blood and helps keep it clean. This is one of the easiest ways to promote health. When you breathe deeply, your stomach should come out as you breathe in and deflate like a balloon when you breathe out.

8. Exercise, exercise, exercise. This is still one of the best ways to remove toxins from the system and help increase energy levels. Yoga is highly recommended, as well as other eastern forms of exercise which specifically have movements to promote detoxification such as qigong.

9. Learn to deal with stress. High levels of stress cause hormone changes which actually can hinder the detoxification process. Dealing with stress effectively aids in natural body detox. Try meditation or therapy. A couple of minutes daily can make all the difference in the world.

10. Exfoliate your skin by dry-brushing. Don't use any salt or sugar scrubs, as these may have chemicals in them that will harm your body. You can also purchase special baths to help eliminate waste through your pores.

All these recommendations are important to keep your body cleansed. While you may not be able to do them all at once, slowly incorporating them into your daily routine helps bolster your chances for success.

7 Quick And Easy Teen Weight Loss Tips

By Darlene Nicholson

Are you looking for some quick and easy teen weight loss tips? Then you’ve come to the right spot! These positive weight loss tips will get your overweight teen off that couch, away from the computer and on his or her way to a happier, healthier life!

One of the biggest contributing factors to being overweight as a teen has to do with a sedentary lifestyle. There’s so much entertainment geared towards sitting in front of a screen that kids tend to do just that. What motivation does your teen have to leave the screens behind and get some exercise? The key to these teen weight loss tips is to make exercise fun!

Teen weight loss tip #1: Does your teen like to spend time at the mall? Teach them the art of window shopping – fast window shopping! Take your teen to the mall early in the morning and join the mall walkers. As you walk at a brisk pace, your teen can check out all the store windows. This can even serve as a fashion education for you, Mom or Dad!

Teen weight loss tip #2: Racquetball! Many physical activities help a person work off a bad mood, but racquetball allows your teen to pummel a bad mood! Teenagers are not lacking in emotional ups and downs. This ramped up tennis-like sport can really work off stress and calories at the same time. Check out your local parks and recreational facilities for free courts and go purchase a couple of cheap racquets and balls for you and your teen.

Teen weight loss tip #3: Let’s go fly a kite! Kites can actually become a pretty cool hobby that offers exercise as well. Find a big field free of trees and go run some kites. This might be something a group of your teens friends will find fun and challenging as they learn to do tricks with their kites. Hey, maybe they’ll start a new trend!

Teen weight loss tip #4: Bring your teen to the gym with you. Most fitness clubs offer use of their entire facilities for teenagers. If this is something in your budget, it can be a great way to help your teen make exercise a part of their lives. There are so many options for working out at a gym that your teen is bound to find an activity they love. They might even be encouraged by observing healthy people at work on their bodies.

Teen weight loss tip #5: Become running (or walking) buddies! Going for a run or brisk walk in the morning with your teen not only benefits your child, but you as well. So set those alarm clocks a little earlier and hit the road. I haven’t met many teenagers that love to jump out of bed in the morning, so you may have to use a little bribery. It takes three weeks to make something a habit, good or bad. Tell them if they run with you for three weeks, you’ll buy them that new video game they’ve been wanting. Hey, I know, bribery isn’t the best parenting method, but break the rule for something this important! You’re giving your child a chance to form an exercise habit that they just might keep for a lifetime!

Teen weight loss tip #6: Golf. What? Tiger Woods is in fantastic shape! Alright, so I realize that golf isn’t as ramped up as the rest of these tips, but walking an 18-hole course over two hours burns more calories than you might think. Couple that with carrying a golf bag and you’ve got a pretty decent activity! Obviously, you need to leave the golf cart behind. Besides, if your overweight child is less of the athletic type and more of the book worm, intellectual type, he or she will probably enjoy a skilled sport such as golf.

Teen weight loss tip #7: Exercise classes. If you don’t belong to a gym, our local community center or parks and rec organizations might offer classes for your teen to explore other areas of exercise. Perhaps your teen just hasn’t found something they like. There are so many forms of exercise out there that the possibilities are endless: yoga, Pilates, Yogalates, kick-boxing, karate, Kung Fu, hip-hop…

The best teen weight loss tip I can give you is to just get your teen moving. Be a positive influence for your teen and get moving with them!

Natural Sweeteners: Which One Should You Take?

By Megri Soft

Sugar consumption in the United States is higher than most other countries due to fast food diets. Diabetes is also high in the United States. Natural sweeteners like stevia, luo han, and xylitol can help fight diabetes while keeping your taste buds happy.

There are many natural sweeteners to choose from if you want to avoid sugar, but don't want any of the artificial sweeteners over which there are a few questions. You can choose from xylitol, luo han, stevia and others, but before discussing these, let's have a look at the problems with sugar, artificial sweeteners and the American sugar industry.

Sugar as most people know it originates either from sugar cane or sugar beet, though by far the biggest American industry is in the cane. There are many different types of sugar, though that obtainable from cane sugar is sucrose. Sucrose is a disaccharide and carbohydrate, stored by plants as a reserve energy source to be used when needed. Humans cannot directly use sucrose, and it is metabolized in the body to glucose which needs the hormone insulin to help convert it into energy.

Insulin is produced in the pancreas, and a lack of it, or the body's failure to use it properly, is referred to as diabetes. There are two types of diabetes:

Type 1: A total lack or deficiency of insulin due to the pancreas producing insufficient quantities of insulin, or even none at all. This is often seen in young people and is generally cause by the immune system attacking the insulin-producing sells in the pancreas. The treatment for type 1 diabetes is to introduce insulin to the blood, normally by means of injections, plenty exercise and the adoption of a high carbohydrate low fat diet.

Type 2: This is strongly associated with obesity and weight, and is due either to insufficient insulin production by the pancreas (but not as deficient as for Type 1 diabetes) or an inability of the cells of the body to properly use insulin. Type 2 diabetes does not always require insulin injections, and can be treated by exercise, diet and weight control. However, there are occasions where insulin injections are also required. It tends to affect people older than those with Type 1 diabetes and 90% of cases are of this type.

Both types, however, are connected with an excess of glucose in the blood, into which most sugars are converted. A diet low in sucrose will go a long way towards helping people that suffer from either type of diabetes, and control of carbohydrate intake should include a reduction in the intake of sucrose in the form or beet or cane sugar. This accepted, then if you need a sweetener, a saccharide free natural sweetener would appear to be the logical choice.

You could opt for a synthetic sweetener, but they also have their problems. There is evidence that saccharin could be a carcinogen, and 'aspartame' disease is not a myth. The other artificial sweeteners also have sufficient questions that natural sweeteners would appear to be the obvious choice. But which? That is the question. Let's have a look at some and check out their pros and cons.

The first is Stevia. This is a South American herb that is 400 times sweeter than sucrose and yet is very low in calories and does not affect diabetics. Used throughout most of the world, it has not been approved by the FDA as a food additive due mainly, it would appear, to lobbying by the American sugar corporations. This is understandable, since mass substitution of sugar by stevia in processed foods is entirely possible, but would cost the sugar corporations billions.

However, it is available to purchase from health food stores, and does not appear to possess the problems that aspartame does. Unlike that sweetener, it can be used in baking and cooking, and is ideal for diabetics and people suffering from yeast infections such as candida. Such infections are aggravated by sugar in the colon, since yeasts love sugar, but they cannot survive on stevia. The safety of stevia has been proven through hundreds of years of popular use without any problems.

However, there are others. Luo Han Guo is a sweet Chinese fruit of which extracts are marketed as a natural sweetener. The plant it comes from is the Momordica grosvenori, a member of the cucumber squash family that grows in the mountainous areas of southern China. The sweeteners it contains are called mogrosides that are terpene glycosides, of which there are five different forms, the main one being termed mogroside-5.

The extract is available in the form of a powder consisting of around 80% mogrosides, and possesses around 250% of the sweetness of sucrose. This, too, can be used in cooking; because it is stable to heat and contains about 2% of the calories of ordinary sugar (one half teaspoon is equivalent to 25 teaspoons sugar). You can help 50 medicines go down for the same calories of getting one down using sugar!

Not only that but, like stevia, there are no known side effects. It has been used for many centuries in Chinese medicine in the treatment of gastrointestinal conditions and conditions of the respiratory tract. Unlike natural sweeteners, luo han has been found to be useful in helping to manage diabetes since it does not cause insulin levels to rise and are not involved in energy production, so have no effect on your weight. The mogrosides from luo han are also under study as inhibitors of certain tumors, and might be able to inhibit skin tumor growth. Other possible medical advantages include helping to reduce atherosclerosis and heart disease, so would appear to be a useful sweetener to use in your coffee!

Finally, xylitol. It was during World War II that Finnish scientists rediscovered xylitol that had been previously used in Germany as a sweetener in the late nineteenth century. The sugar shortage resurrected this substance that can metabolize without the need for insulin.

Xylitol is a substance that is found in some fruits and vegetables and also in corn cobs. In fact, it is a product that appears in animal metabolism, and so is perfectly safe. It is known to help support the immune system, and to help reduce the effects of aging. It possesses antibacterial properties due to its 5-carbon ring and has been approved by the FDA. Xylitol can replace sugar in most of its domestic uses, including in baking and as a natural sweetener. It is also used extensively in chewing gum as a sweetener that does not cause dental cavities due the acid caused by bacterial attack on the sugar.

However, one use to which xylitol cannot be put, nor any of the other natural sweeteners mentioned here, is in fermentation. Try these for your wine or beer and you will be very disappointed at the low alcohol level of your brew! This is also, however, one of the benefits of xylitol: it cannot feed the yeasts that cause candida or any other yeast infection. Although it is a saccharide, it is the same as the others in this respect.

So, which of these natural sweeteners should you take? The choice is yours since each has its own benefits with very few disadvantages and certainly no recorded side effects that we know of. Use stevia for superior sweetening effects, and make up a concentrated solution of it in water for your cooking. Use luo han if you have gastrointestinal problems, and use xylitol if you want fresher breath and to protect your teeth.

Use none for brewing or winemaking, and use any of them if you are diabetic. The choice is yours. These sweeteners are available at your local or internet health food store.

Health And Nutrition Tips For The Body

By Jerry Wanga

We all want a healthy and fit body. But just like anything in life, it takes some work. But the effort sure is worth the work. So if you are among the few willing to delay gratification to achieve results then this is for you read on.

1. Eat Fruit and Vegetable

Getting enough antioxidants (disease fighting vitamins and minerals) generally means eating enough fruit and vegetables – an acceptable guide being five portions daily. Fruits and vegetables should roughly make up about a third of the food eaten each day. Making sure your main meal is rich in vegetables is a good way towards achieving this, while snacking on fruit is another way to keep intake high.

2. Easy on Saturated Fats

Saturated fat found in foods such as chocolate and cake is one of the major contributors to serious illness such as heart disease. Most of the fats we consume should from unsaturated fat – the good fats that comprise Omega 3, 6 and 9 and are found in foods like oily fish, seeds, nuts, olives and avocados. Several major studies have linked high (two or more portions a day) red meat intake to cancer. The accepted advice is to eat more fish – about 80 g every other day.

3. Take up aerobic exercise

Many people lead overwhelmingly sedentary lives. Investing in your health by walking, cycling or swimming for 30 minutes a day is one of the key ways to stay young. Aerobic exercise – which doesn’t have to be too vigorous – maximizes the amount of oxygen in your blood and releases endorphins, natural painkiller that promote an increased sense of well – being.

4. Get Enough Fibre

Many people don’t eat enough fibre. Recommendations vary, but around 26 grams a day seems to be about right. It’s important to eat enough insoluble fibre (from bread, for example) as well as soluble fibre (the main source being vegetables). A fibre – rich diet is important for a healthy digestive system and hart, as well as protecting against serious disease such as cancer.

5. Drink Plenty of Water

humble H2O is vital for the proper working of all outrogans, from the liver and kidneys to the lymph system and our skin. Estimates vary, but most advice suggests that adults should drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day. This is especially important in hot climates where the risk of dehydration is far greater.

6. Looking after you Skin

As the largest of body’s organs, the skin reveals plenty about our age. Taking care of your skin is one of the key secrets to looking young. Skin that has overdosed on sun can end up looking wrinkled and taut. Be sensible in the sun, particularly during the hottest periods of the day. Cover up with light cloths and a hat, and wear sunscreen – organic if possible.

7. Go easy on the alcohol

Official advice on how much we should drink varies from country to country and can be confusing. In UK government advice is to drink not more than two to three units of alcohol a day. What we do know is that long – term consumption of large quantities of alcohol lead to permanent damage to major organs such as the brain, throat, stomach, intestines and liver.

8. Do not overeat

There is growing evidence that people who do not overeat live longer. In west, obesity is a big problem; in Africa, too, it’s cause of growing concern – almost a fifth of adolescents in South Africa are now overweight. Many of us eat too much without even realizing, and by doing so put on weight while straining the major organs or the body. Try cutting down portion sizes at mealtimes by a third.

9. Get 7 – 8 hours sleep a night

The body does most of its repairing when you’re asleep. Cells regenerate at a faster pace at night and body tissues are repaired. There is even evidence that too little sleep makes people age faster. There is little arguing with the fact that a good night’s sleep makes all the difference to energy and concentration levels the next day.

10. Stay away from cigarettes

Along term smoker increases his or her risk of a grim selection of illnesses that include various cancers, asthma, reduce lung capacity, high blood pressure and heart disease. More that 700 chemical compounds are found in cigarettes, some of which are toxic and not allowed in food. For anyone wanting to stay youthful for as long as possible smoking is no-go zone – on to of the risk of serious illness, a smoking habit ages skin prematurely and yellows skin and nails.

11. Limit caffeine intake

Studies on the effects of drinking too much tea and coffee are always in the news, and many are contradictory. What we do know is that high caffeine intake can adversely affect blood pressure and therefore heart health. Stick to one or two cups of tea or coffee a day, or cultivate a taste for herbal teas.

12. Take supplements

The market for vitamins and mineral supplements has rocketed in recent years. While not everyone agrees that dietary supplements are beneficial, most would agree that there is little harm in boosting your diet with a tablet packed with the vitamins and minerals the body needs to stay fit and healthy. A combined vitamin/mineral tablet is the best, and simplest, format. However, you should always take medical advice before taking supplements, especially if you are on medication.

13. Learn to meditate

No one finds meditation easy. The idea of sitting still and trying to calm the mind sounds far, far easier that it is in real life and demands time, dedication and patience. It is however, one of the best ways of keeping the mind calm and the problems and challenges of life in perspective. Regular meditation improves psychological wellbeing by reducing anxiety and stress levels, helping us to stay more fully in the present and to let go of negative thought processes.

14. Practice yoga regularly

According to yoga philosophy, it’s the flexibility of the spine not how old you are, that determines a person’s age. Introducing yoga into your daily or weekly routine is one of the best things you can do to stay young. Its benefits include improving posture, toning the skin and muscles, eliminating tension from the body, strengthening the core stomach muscles as well as those in the arms and legs.

15. Breathe properly

Yoga’s emphasis on breathing also brings huge emotional and psychological benefits, calming the mind, alleviating stress, anxiety and depression and helping us to focus on the here and now. But you don’t have to be a yoga enthusiast to breathe properly. Get used to breathing from your abdomen, not your chest. Experiment with taking long, slow breathe, with a greater emphasis on exhalation than inhalation. Taking even a minute a day to fill your lungs with oxygen can provide instant benefits.

16. Surround yourself with good friends

Numerous studies show that supportive friendships can provide emotional help during difficult times, as well as improve our health and increase longevity. Women tend to be naturally better at surrounding themselves with friends, but there is no inherent reason why this should be the case. A sense of belonging is crucial for emotional health and wellbeing and those without that network are far more likely to suffer from depression.

17. Find hobbies you enjoy and keep busy

Older people who look and feel young tend to have full busy lives. Make a point of discovering what you enjoy and do it regularly. As well as connecting you to other people, regular participation in a hobby can relieve stress and keep an element of fun high on the agenda. Taking this to its idea, turning a hobby into a career can mean there is no difference between work and play.

18. Remember to laugh often

As children know well, laugher is fun. It is also free and hugely beneficial to health – so much so that a whole industry has grown up around it in recent years in the form of laughter gyms and laughter yoga. Frequent laughter boost mood, improves brain functioning, lowers blood pressure and reduces stress. It connects you to thers, and may even protect against heart disease.

19. Discover massage

Regular massage can decrease anxiety and fatigue, boost energy and improve circulation and sleep. Psychologically, our sense of touch is hugely important and having a massage can immediately boost wellbeing. There are also a host of physical pay-offs, including helping to keep joints flexible. Most of all, it’s fun and versatile – an Indian head massage can feel very different from an aromatherapy treatment or the popular Japanese technique of Shiatsu.

20. Cultivate a positive attitude and enjoy life

Studies has shown that a person’s mental state and attitude can influence how well, and how long, they live. In one study, those who reported high levels of optimism had a 55% lower risk of death from premature causes. Take responsibility for your life and wellbeing. Discover what you enjoy, treat you body with respect and live each day as if it really were your last.

21. Keep stress levels low

Chronic stress in endemic in many societies and work related stress affects one in five people. High cortisol levels in the body, like those associated with chronic stress, can decrease bone density and muscle tissue, raise blood pressure, impair cognitive ability and lower immunity. Stress is generated when the body’s cortisol – infused ‘flight or fight’ response is generated and does not have a chance to return to normal. It is possible, however, to minimize stress through lifestyle.

1Getting Your Ideal Body Weight

By Sheila Shover

Weight loss and discovering your ideal body weight is not unreasonable. Draw off of the information in this article and get some practical steps you can take to perpetrate your goals.

There seems to be a enormous gap between what women consider to be their ideal body weight is as apposed to what the number is according to a doctor. When you consider your height and your build, the number of pounds that are healthy for you is probably a higher number than you are aiming for if you are dieting. I know that the weight I seem to hold to is what I want is indeed lower than what my doctor is telling me. There is a variation between how you think you want to look in attire and what is healthy for the preservation of good health and longevity.

There are numerous charts online that can give you an idea of what your ideal body weight should be. You have to put in your height, age, and possibly a few more specifics. I am 5 ft 8 in, and the chart tells me that my ideal body weight is around 150 pounds, but I repeatedly think that I need to be somewhere amidst 130 and 140 pounds to feel good about my body. However, I do realize that as long as I am healthy that I am doing the right thing, and if that last ten or so pounds are not a problem for my physician then perhaps I shouldn't worry about it too much.

Here is something you should consider. No matter which way you look at it, 3,500 calories cut is about 1 pound lost. Whether you take in 500 fewer or burn 500 more calories a day, by the end of the week you'll be 1 pound lighter!

When your ideal body weight and your opinion of your body don't balance, you have to think about why that is. I don't mean when you think you want to be a couple pounds lighter than your ideal body weight, I mean when you are trying to be 30 or more pounds lighter. This is not healthy for you, and you have to come to grips with the body you have. If you don't, you may end up with an eating disorder. You may want to set aside some time to speak to your physician or a nutritionist to see what is going on with you, and what you can do to be healthier rather than thinner.

Recognize that you ideal body weight has more to do with health then anything else. This means that the weight that is ideal for you is one that is perfect for your heart and your long term health. This has nothing to do with how you will look in a swimming suit or dress, but the closer you are to your ideal body weight, the better you are going to look and feel. You may not think it's ideal, but it is important to know that your ideal weight will help make sure you are around to watch your children and your grandchildren grow up.

While weight loss can be achieved in may differing procedures. The basic principles are the very similar. Find what works for you and hold fast to it.

Seven Healthy Hair Tips, Myths And Misconceptions

By: Susan Bishop

Our hair. It’s straightened, shaved, waved, blow dried, braided and streaked. We buy haircare products by the bucketful. Not to mention the world is awash in healthy hair tips, myths and misconceptions. Let’s explore a few.

Myth #1: Those who want shiny hair rinse using cold water.

Truth: While I realize this sounds like one of the healthy hair tips, a cold water rinse doesn’t result in shiny hair. As long as you don't use extremely hot water, which is damaging, to wash your hair, it simply does not matter how cold the rinse water is.

Myth #2: You will ruin your hair by coloring it.

In truth this is pure hogwash. Were this the case most stylists would be out of a job. Coloring is safe as long as you follow the instructions to the letter. It also helps to use gentle coloring products. It helps more if afterwards you use shampoos and conditioners specifically designed for colored hair. In fact it’s smart to use extra conditioner each time you wash your colored hair.

Myth #3: Always lather and rinse twice to get cleaner hair.

Truth: Not so. In fact over use of shampoos can damage your hair. so unless your hair is extremely oily shampooing once should suffice.

Myth #4 Trimming your hair frequently causes it to grow faster.

Truth: Hair growth is an individual thing somewhat dependent on diet. How fast it grows certainly does not depend on how often you trim it. All a trim does is to make your hair look neater by getting rid of split ends.

Still many women see their stylist often because they believe frequently trimmed hair grows faster.

Myth #5: If you've got fine hair is will stay limp no matter what you do to it.

Truth: Straight fine hair can be given added body by using hot rollers. After that simply add mousse and brush out well. Viola! More volume.

Myth #6: Each gray hair you pull out is replaced by several more.

No way is that old saw true. Still it’s seldom a good idea to pull out any hair by the roots. You might develop a scalp infection or scar yourself by trying that. It’s better to color your hair if you're worried about grays

Myth #7: For healthier hair brush your hair 100 strokes nightly.

Truth: That's a really famous myth that has been repeated for generations from mother to daughter. You’ll also see it mentioned in some books about hair. But the truth is you never want to brush your hair except to style it.

Over brushing like this tends to weaken and damage your hair.

So there you have it. Seven healthy hair tips.

Losing Weight The Natural Way

By: Sharon Bell

Our life experiences teach us how to live a simple life. Complications start in the mind. If we are always thinking of our problems, our life will be miserable. Finding solutions to our thousands of questions is easier if we have a clear mind and an open heart in accepting possible answers. Surviving the challenges that we face every day is all matter of learning the ropes of working hard and enjoying what we have at the present.

Anything we do has an impact in our daily lives. It only depends how we manage our time and efforts toward what is beneficial to our being. When it comes to health, living a good life means that we are aware of the things that would be harmful or helpful to us. The food that we eat, the activities that we do, and how we weigh things out have an effect in our physical health. These also help us determine if we are really health conscious or serious to stay in shape.

We know that regular exercise and healthy diet are essential in staying fit. Both exercise and diet go hand-in-hand in making the body healthy. However, these two should be made in moderation since too much of something is not good. Dieting does not mean getting so thin. It means reducing the food intake rich in fat, sugar or calories. Vegetables and fruits should be part of the meal. They are good sources of vitamins and minerals that help the body to be strong and fight back free radicals in the body. You don’t need to look so slim to tell that you are in a diet but rather to have an ideal weight using the body mass index. It is based on your height and weight, although it is not the only factor used in identifying if you are really healthy. There are still many factors such blood pressure, cholesterol level, sugar content in the body, etc.

Having a clearer complexion is not only through medications or whitening soaps. Exercising is one way of having good skin. As you exercise, it causes the pores to open and helps release the sweat. Sweating is sometimes messy and makes us look tired and restless; but this helps to eliminate dirt and impurities in our system. As a result, it makes our complexion clearer.

In getting rid of stored fat in the body, burning the calories through exercise is the answer. Depending on the plumpness of the problem areas, more rigid activities are necessary, particularly cardiovascular exercises such as brisk walking, running, biking, etc.

Staying in shape gives you the opportunity to move lightly and freely without any feeling of shyness that you look heavy or always complaining that you tire easily. Exercise strengthens your body against fatigue and stress.

The benefits of exercise are reducing high blood pressure, preventing and controlling type 2 diabetes, preventing osteoporosis or thinning of the bone tissue and loss of bone density overtime, preventing cardiovascular diseases, stroke, helping to improve your mood toward having more patience, not easily irritable and helping to keep the muscle strong. Other types of cancers are also prevented such as colon, prostate and breast cancer.

Exercise doesn’t have to be always on the gym. Activities like running, walking, swimming, gardening, skiing or biking are suggested. Diet pills and other supplements are helpful but doctors’ advice should be sought for proper medication and guidance.

3 Weight Loss Mistakes

By: Kathryn Soloff

There are literally tons of information and articles about losing weight. Believe it or not, people still make the same dieting mistakes over and over again. I am not referring to little slip ups. What I am talking about are big mistakes that become real problems in your weight loss attempts. If we can define these mistakes it may make it possible for healthy, permanent weight loss.

The first mistake is the all or nothing attitude. People who approach their dieting in this manner will often select a diet that practically impossible for them to maintain. When they first begin, they remove anything from the kitchen that does not fit in with their new diet. What they are thinking is that they wish to be perfect. They probably will be. Maybe for a day or two, or perhaps ever a couple of weeks. But something always happens. For some reason they are not able to continue with their diet. When this happens the entire process is ruined and the diet is over. So what they do is go to the store and replace all the things that they threw out in the first place.

If this is your approach to dieting then it is necessary to ask yourself some difficult questions. What exactly is the purpose of your diet? Do you want to lose this weight permanently? Perhaps you just wish to lose a few pounds. The secret here is to make lifestyle changes in your diet. This way you create a slow and regular means of losing weight.

The second mistake is the attitude of sacrifice. Many people see their diet as some sort of sacrifice. It is easy to see why. You are not allowing yourself to eat the foods that you enjoy the most while attempting to achieve your target weight. This is what happens. You have done your research. You have come up with well thought out diet that you can do. You can successfully lose that weight and achieve your target weight. Okay! Now what? You have reached your goal. Have you really changed your eating habits? Did you learn to eat those so called bad foods in moderation? Are you likely to end up out of control? Can you broaden your diet in moderation and maintain your target weight?

The third mistake is goal failure. Defining your goals is essential with your weight loss program. Your goals should be crystal clear. They must be realistic. You should write them down. You probably have an ideal weight in mind when you begin. If you are more than a few pounds overweight, this goal is probably too far away to be helpful. A more practical goal is to lose 2 pounds per week for the first several weeks. After that, 1 pound per week. Of course, this will vary from week to week. However, when you track your progress you will observe that you are consistently moving toward your goal.

Do not worry if you have been making any of these mistakes. Just like everything else in life, it important to learn your lesson and to move on. The truth is that we learn more from our failures than we do from our successes. Do not let your mistakes to be an excuse for giving up. Success comes from making a commitment and by being persistent.

5 Step Diet To Lower Cholesterol!

By: B.J. Gordey

If you’re worried about lowering your cholesterol level you’re not alone. Changing your diet to lower cholesterol is usually the first step in cholesterol maintenance, before medicines are added. People who have high cholesterol may be able to lower their cholesterol levels with these simple lifestyle changes:

Step 5) The School of Medicine at Stanford University did a study consisting of 377 men and post-menopausal women, with high cholesterol. First they put them on a low-fat diet, and then had half of them to do aerobic exercise, and the other half did no form of exercise at all.

After one year, the exercising group had significantly reduced their cholesterol levels – while the sedentary group showed no such reduction in their cholesterol. So the 5th step is to add aerobic exercise to your lifestyle.

Step 4) Did you know that the average person makes about 75% of their blood cholesterol in their own liver, while only about 25% is absorbed from food. So you should be able to further reduce your cholesterol with dietary changes.

A low-fat diet with no trans-fats will lower your cholesterol anywhere from 8% to 20%. There are several very good low-fat diets – the Dash Diet, Mediterranean Diet, the South Beach Diet, Ultra metabolism Diet, and Weight Watchers Diet are all great diets to reduce your fat and trans-fat intake. All of these diets have either online programs or manuals and books to provide step-by-step instructions and menu plans. So your 4th step is to add a reduced fat diet.

Step 3) One of the reasons your body produces Cholesterol is a self preservation tactic. Your arteries develop cracks and stress fractures as a natural occurrence. Your body must patch these cracks and fractures or you will bleed to death.

The substance of choice for your body to use is Collagen. However, if the raw ingredients needed aren’t present in sufficient quantities to produce this miraculous elixir, cholesterol can also be used instead.

So to keep your collagen production at its peak, rather than giving your liver a reason to produce additional cholesterol, give your body plenty of vitamin C (ascorbic acid). Your 3rd step is to add vitamin C (ascorbic acid) to your diet.

Step 2) 60 recent heart bypass surgery patients were divided into groups. The first group had no dietary restrictions, while the second and third group had one white or one red grapefruit each day.

The second and third group had significantly lowered cholesterol levels while the no grapefruit group showed no reduction. But the red grapefruit group also had a reduction in their triglycerides. So step 2 is "Eat Red Grapefruit", which will incidentally help with step 3 as well.

Step 1) A study of 14,600 men and women ages 45 to 75, recently showed the participants' total cholesterol declined as their number of meals per day increased. Those who ate five or six times a day had the lowest total cholesterol, on average approximately 5% lower, while the highest measurements were found among those who ate only one or two meals a day. So your number
1 step, and incidentally the easiest, is to eat five or six small meals a day, rather than one or two large ones.

If you find a diet to lower cholesterol and follow these 5 steps, you should have your cholesterol to healthy levels as quickly as possible.

Seafood - A Healthy and Delicious Diet

By: Isabel Da Silva

Fish and other seafood are identified as good source of protein and does not comprise of high saturated fats. Comparatively to other fatty meats even the calories level is low in fish and seafood.

The above given fact proves that fish is a valuable addition to anybody's diet. In fact you can view great advantage of fish. By consuming fist at least two time a week can be an excellent source for your body, as it one of the richest natural sources of Omega 3 essential fatty acids. Fatty fish like mackerel, salmon, trout, and sardines comprise high levels of Omega 3 fatty acids.

Recent studies have proven records that Omega 3 fatty acids gives protection against circulatory system disease by reducing the levels of bad cholesterol and by stabilizing blood pressure. There are as well many other heath benefits of consuming seafood. Children may achieve prevention from asthma and seafood further reduces the risk of prostate cancer.

Omega 3 also prevents the onset of diseases such as macular degeneration, one of the most common causes of blindness associated with aging. It also helps diabetics maintain better control of blood sugar levels and has been shown to delay the onset of dementia and even Alzheimer's disease.

Of late a study has concentrated on its impact on the nervous system and its result proved beneficial in brain function and in combating depression.

Generally speaking one must obtain Omega 3 fatty acids in to the body as it in nature does not appear in cells and it can be done through consuming sea food. It is several time proved that Omega 3 fatty acids has lot of health benefits, but do they occur from fish and seafood?

There are 3 main types of omega 3 fatty acids: ALA - alpha-linolenic acid, EPA - eicosapentaenoic acid and DHA - docosahexaenoic acid.

Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is generally found in tofu, soybeans, canola walnuts and flaxseed and oils that are derivative from these products. Although, ALA has to be converted in the body cells before it actually gets absorbed. In fact our body cannot make such conversion and evidence that this conversion essentially takes place is rather unsubstantiated.

As a result EPA and DHA become the most significant dietary sources of Omega 3 fatty acids and this is where fish comes into its own. They are one of the most abundant sources of DHA and EPA.

In nature, too much consumption of anything could certainly have effects that are negative, at the same time fish is no exception. One of the major risks of consuming excess fish is the subsidiary and inadvertent eating of contaminants that the fish picks up from waterways. As there are an array of built-up contaminants, which concerns the primary trouble is mercury.

Due to differences in food sources mercury levels in fish vary depending on whether the fish are farmed or caught in the wild. However, in general larger fish, higher up in the food chain have a greater accumulation of contaminants including mercury. In normal circumstances the levels of mercury in most fish are not likely to cause serious concern to a healthy adult unless consumed to excess.

However, infants, children and pregnant women may be more susceptible to harm at lower levels of mercury. It is therefore important to limit the intake of fish by persons in these categories. Mercury could damage the growing nervous systems of young children or the developing fetus and may increase the risk of miscarriage in pregnant women.

The predominance of proof anyhow falls exactly in favor of consuming fish. The health advantages derivative from Omega 3 far prevail over the possible dangers from contaminants. If taken in control there is little doubt that fish could be certainly beneficial.

Five Ways To Cut Sugar From Your Diet

By Elizabeth Ramer

Pre-sweetened products like breakfast cereals and some packaged goods are laden with sugar. Taking in large quantities of sugar all at once elevates our blood sugar levels too fast. We experience sudden energy then a swift plunge in our energy level that makes our butt drag on the floor half an hour later. To offset this, we tend to reach for something to increase our blood sugar level. This succession of spiking and dipping causes us to eat way too much. By eliminating needless sources of sugar, eventually we will be able to lose weight.

1. Cut out the sugary sodas. Regular sodas contain sugar and high fructose corn syrup, and some studies have shown one regular soda a day will add 15 pounds a year. As well, sugar will make you thirsty. Drinking more soda to slake your thirst will only increase it. Diet sodas may have no calories, but the sugar alcohol turns to fat if your body does not use it, so it's best to limit the diet soda to one or two a day.

2. Eat some fresh fruit every day. If you drink fruit juice to meet your daily total of fruit once in a while, you might be okay, but don't make a regular practice of it. What you drink absorbs quicker than what you eat. In addition, some fruit juices contain extra calories and sugar. Eat some grapes or an orange instead of juice. Fruit has natural sugars that will satisfy your sugar craving without overdoing it. If you eat some fruit, it will help to fill you up and satisfy you longer than fruit juice will. Plus, you get the fiber most juice doesn't have.

3. Begin your day with a bowl of oatmeal. Pre sweetened cereal may provide you with a speedy breakfast, but you'll need to eat a ton of it to hold off until your morning snack. Have a bowl of oatmeal instead. While oatmeal doesn't always have an appetizing effect on us, it's terrific for sticking with you. Oatmeal offers more protein and fiber than cold cereals will keep you going all day. Steel cut oatmeal is best.

4. Eat a handful of nuts. While nuts are high in fat and calories, they have lots of protein, vitamin E, fiber, and omega 3 fatty acids, depending on which nut you choose. Nuts have the added advantages of filling you up, so you won't be hungry, and they are natural mood boosters. Be careful not to eat too many - I eat a handful or at most an ounce. Walnuts have the most Omega 3's.

5. Avoid sweet treats in the workplace. Look around in any office: what do you see? There is always one or two people that has a jar of chocolate candy or hard candy sitting on their desk. Your boss might bring fattening and sugary snacks and donuts on special occasions or just to butter you up. Steer clear of the office snacks. All of this extra sugar just adds to your bottom line. Eating your breakfast at home can ward off your desire for that extra sugar in the morning. Keep your own stash of healthy snacks in your desk so you do not feel the need to treat ourselves elsewhere. Unfortunately, the dreaded sugar is in most everything we consume in one form or another. Indulging it may be okay once in awhile, but we usually eat too much. Make a decision today to seek out those hidden sources of sugar and get rid of them.About The

Sensitive Skin - Causes and Solutions

By Ray Nwambuonwo

Sensitive skin is a condition affect millions of people. It is for certain, nothing to be ashamed of or worried about-at least until the symptoms begin to show. Sensitive skin covers everything from sudden blushing to the growth of hives or many other spots that itch or cause irritation.

Sensitive skin can be a perplexing and painful condition to bear. Nevertheless, with the right treatment, many sensitive skin problems can be managed to the point that a regular lifestyle is possible. The most complicating factor is the fact that there is no single cause of sensitive skin which is why no single sensitive skin care treatment will work everyone.

The beginning symptoms of sensitive skin are usually subtle, but there are some known reactions to prove your have one. Have you noticed a tingling sensation in your skin or do you feel it tightening up-but can not see any discernible signs of a problem? Do you always search for skin care and hygienic products that does not cause an allergic reaction with your skin?

When you shave do you get severe reactions that lead to red or inflamed skin? Do people tell you your face and skin turn dark red when under stress? Do you always have dry skin or skin redness but you never actually found the cause? If your answer is yes to one or more of the above questions, then you definitely suffer from some form of sensitive skin.

The most common causes of sensitive skin problems are numerous but I will point out the most obvious ones. Sometimes you are born with the condition like blushing or itching easily and always. When you are especially prone to sunburn or getting freckles due to some sun exposure then the condition is in your genes. Another sign of genetic factors towards the condition is known allergic reaction to wool or latex gloves.

Foods we eat are the common cause of skin problems. It is different for everyone, but some foods can cause severe allergic reaction in some people. I am sure you have heard someone tell you, I don't eat beans or some other types of fruit. In some people increased stress makes them blush easily. While, in others just changing skin care products or medications can trigger an allergic reaction. The known triggers such as food, stress, medication, or skin care products that must be monitored and avoided.

For those with sensitive skin genes since birth, the best way is to accept the problem and then find a way to manage the condition. Simple common sense will be your best defense against known or newly discovered causes. If you're allergic to the sun just reduce your exposure or try sun protection cream or other popularly known aids from your local pharmacist.

If you're allergic to certain products or food avoid them at all cost. Keep a mental tab of or better yet keep a journal of products to stay away from because of known past allergic reactions to them. Simply by avoiding these conditions and situations, you can eliminate or limit the problems associated with the symptoms of sensitive skin while not completely altering your lifestyle.

If you suffer from dry skin condition, finding the right moisturizer is the proactive step you can take to limit sensitive skin problems. Try to only use natural moisturizers that contain no chemical ingredients or alcohol in them. Moisturizers made with all natural ingredients should be preferred to those made with chemicals or other artificial products because they are less likely to cause other allergic reactions common to those with sensitive skin.

How Can We Lose Weight - Live It Or Diet?

By: CD Mohatta

Why is it as we age, we get heavier? I feel like if I just look at food, I gain weight. I know many people in mid-life have these feelings. We start getting bigger and bigger and before long, we find that we have become plump or even fat. There are some things that we can do about gaining weight but the two main things to remember are basic to losing weight.

Can you think of the two basic things that are needed by anyone trying to lose weight? They are simple things that we always did as youngsters. They were like second nature to children to run around, playing, and eating small amounts of food at every meal. Eat less and move more. Somewhere along the line, as we began to age, we forget to follow that advice. Children always remember it.

All the advice we ever hear to “lose weight” is to go on a diet. But dieting is not the way to really lose weight because we don’t want to “die” it; we want to “live” it. If we just learn to eat less food, push ourselves away from the table, stop eating when we are satisfied or measure our portions, we would be really surprised about how much food would be left over after a meal. We just need to quit eating so much!

Before we sit down to eat, or even while we are eating on the run, we need to drink a big glass of water (or bottle of water if you are on the run). Filling our stomachs first, with water which contains no calories, will make it easier to feel full quicker. Once we sit down to eat, we need to remember another important step, which is to eat slowly, so our brain has time to receive the message that our body is getting nourishment. A good way to eat slowly is to put your fork down between bites.

I think all of us are used to having our meals “super-sized”. I’m not sure if that is because we think we are getting a better deal or we just actually like to eat, but many people don’t even know what a single serving is anymore. I have heard weight loss experts say to skip the second helping and use that food for a smaller meal a few hours later. Plates used to be the size of a dessert plate, which is why the food serving size was more realistic. Our “super sized” mentality now has us eating off plates the size of a serving platter.
The second important part of losing weight is to jump start our metabolism. The best way to do that is to just get moving by doing some kind of exercise. The easiest way to get exercise is to walk. Walking for enjoyment is a fun, easy way to boost your metabolism and you can walk either outside in nature or inside at malls. Another idea is to park away from work or shopping malls so you have to walk. When you walk more, you can really burn off the extra weight. Try taking the steps next time instead of an elevator.
Try to modify your food intake and eat less. Also try to increase your energy level by doing more activities. Have fun doing things that burn calories, like when we were children and soon we will be a smaller size. Remember, it took a lot of time to put the weight on, so don’t be impatient and get frustrated if it doesn’t come off fast. You will be successful when you learn to “live it” and get healthier by eating less and moving more. And try to make friends with healthy and lean individuals. That will motivate you to lose weight faster.

Starting Skin Care For The Skin Clueless

By: Lizz Pugh

A client came into see me recently. She was concerned about her skin but had no experience with skin care. This following is a fairly common scenario:

- They've washed with soap and water for the majority of their life.

- They've baked in the sun, usually using baby oil and possibly iodine to "tan".

- They've never used anything on their skin like moisturizers or exfoliants.

- They're just now noticing some lines and pigmentation and want to do someting about it.

I'd say that the above describes at least 4/10 women that come to see me for facials and consultations.

And 4/4 of them are surprised that I don't send them home with every single skin care item that I can.

This is the reason why:

- Most people can make changes in their lives easily and successfully, but only small changes. Larger changes are more difficult and likely to fail over time.

- Routines take about a month to set up. The easier and more simple the routine is to start, the easier it is to stick with it and ultimately, add to it.

- These clients will start to see major changes in their skin from one or two very easy changes. Adding products later, creating more positive changes, keeps them excited.

- It's much less likely for a client to feel buyer's remorse if they've gotten just a few "products to try" and go from their. If they feel guilty, chances are they won't come back or purchase anything else.

- Let's face it, skin care can be intimidating if you've only used soap your whole life. Too many products to start makes it more complicated than need be.

So, if you are one of those women who are interested in looking your best, having healthy skin, and possibly combating the signs of aging BUT currently don't do more than wash your face with soap once a day, here is what I recommend:

First, get a facial from a licensed professional. You will learn about your skin type, find out what you should be using, and have a chance to ask questions. Also, the exfoliation step will make a huge difference in your skin. This removes some of the dead skin cells, making your skin look fresher, younger, brighter, and less dull. The products that you purchase will be far more effective if they don't have to go penetrate that thick layer of dead skin cells. In addition, you'll feel a lot better about your skin. Your esthetician should give you a realistic view of what's possible with at-home care and with professional treatments.

Next, buy two products. Start with a facial wash. Get out of the habit of washing your face with soap, which can be irritating and drying. Follow your esthetician's advice about when to wash--usually for most skin types once in the morning and once before bed. The second product should be a hydrator (moisturizer) with an SPF built into it. You will put this on every morning before leaving. Eventually you will also add an evening moisturizer sans SPF, but for now this is the most important product. Sun damage is one of the largest "aging factors" and can lead to many skin cancers.

In about a month, after you're used to washing your face twice a day and moisturizing every morning, add an evening moisturizer and an eye cream. Since you're already used to moisturizing in the morning after you wash your face, the evening moisturizer will be easy to integrate. The eye cream is also a very simple step. Some use it only at night, but there is no reason you cannot use it during the day as well for maximal effect. Get another facial at this time if you can afford it. The facial specialist should give you some good feedback and tell you about the positive changes in your skin.

In another month add an exfoliant. This is an easy once-a-week step that only takes a minute or two. Small pieces of a gently abrasive substance such as apricot seeds or loofah are rubbed gently (this is the key--follow the instructions that you are given by your facial person) after washing your face. The face is then rinsed. This helps to remove dead skin cells. If you can add this step sooner, and feel like you won't be overwhelmed, go ahead and do so. Toner is a daily addition that you use directly after washing your face, usually in the evening.

The beginning of the next month on your journey towards a healthy lifetime skin routine, you will likely need to buy more cleanser and moisturizer with SPF. Most full sizes in most product lines last 3-4 months, some longer, after which you'll be out and need to replace it. Try not to completely run out of any one thing so that you don't break your routine.

So in short, add things in this order unless advised otherwise:

- Cleanser and SPF Moisturizer

- Evening Moisturizer and Eye Cream

- Weekly Exfoliant and Toner

- Serums

Your skin care routine will end up looking like this:

Morning:

- Cleanse face

- While still moist, apply any serums and let penetrate

- Apply very small amount of eye cream

- Apply SPF moisturizer

Evening:

- Cleanse face

- Use toner to add additional nutrition and remove anything your cleansing may have missed

- Apply any serums and let penetrate

- Apply small amount of eye cream

- Apply evening moisturizer

Weekly:

- Add the exfoliating step once per week (and only once per week) after cleansing

Monthly:

- Pick up any products that you are going to be out of within a week

- Get a professional facial if you can afford it (do not exfoliate yourself the week before your facial)

It is much better to spend your money on at home products than monthly facials if you must make the choice. Think of it this way: we address your face once per month with our products; you address your face thirty to sixty times a month. Using at home care after your first facial will be far more effective than using nothing and getting a facial once per month.

Simple Steps To Healthy Heart Care

By Mark Hargreaves

Healthy heart care is an issue which could affect any of us especially as we grow older. The heart is one of the the most talked about parts of your body. The heart used metaphorically describes love as a great hurt such as a broken heart. "My heart overflows with my love for you," says a young man to his sweetheart. The emotions that we express with our heart are only one element of the human makeup. The other portion consists of having a healthy heart.

The heart is a major part of your body organs and functions to keep you alive and healthy. It is a noted fact that not only emotions affect your heart as other factors such as your food, your lifestyle, exercises, and pressure all play a pertinent role in heart health. The American Heart Association provides a great deal very good information about heart care. The Cleveland Clinic and other medical centers provide knowledge and steps you can take to ensure you have a healthy heart.

Exercising is a very import element of healthy heart care. We appreciate that not everyone can go to the gym or has the room in their home for gym equipment. We have some suggestions that will help with your heart health care.

- Sit in a comfortable chair and make sure you loosen your clothing for comfort.

- Start with your feet and ankles; rotate them only to the point where you feel the strain.

- Next gently work up to your legs raising them up and holding them for about five minutes.

- Work your hands and arms by raising them one side and then the other.

- Move your head up and down then back and forth in gentle motions.

About 20 minutes a day will help you relieve the strain in your life and will allow you to relax. This is a great way to improve on your general heart health. The next thing is your diet arrangement. Please remember it isn't so much what you eat rather how much and how regularly. We suggest you stay away from the ordinary things that individuals talk about such as fats, too many sweets and desserts, and things that you already know will harm you.

The heart is measured by taking your blood pressure with the results letting your doctor be certain as to your position. While reading your heart, first the physician looks at the Systolic level since systolic heart failure starts whens the left ventricle cannot contract vigorously which is probably a pumping issue. The diastolic heart failure occurs as long as the left ventricle can not relax or fill completely which then becomes a filling issue. The heart must but be able to pump vigorously and then relax to refill with blood to keep a healthy heart.

The truth is that the nations' biggest killer is heart disease and we have piece meal data gathered nation wide. AHA has put together some prime information on the subject and published it while the U.S. Government has not attempted to track heart disease at all. The AHA feels strongly that the government must get involved.

Yes, the heart is at the very soul of our existence. For many we think of the heart as long as we are in love or at a time of personal loss. As we grow older we begin to scrutinize the real heart, the arteries, veins, and the effects on our heart by the things we do. Take some simple precautions for healthy heart care and revel in your life.

How To Look 10 Years Younger In Ten Minutes

By: Deborah Boland

How to Look 10 Years Younger in ten Minutes!

Want to look Fabulous after 40, but not sure how? Here are 5 simple fashion and beauty tips guaranteed to make you look 10 years younger in 10 minutes.

1. Break up a Matching Set

Still marrying your matching jackets to your matching pairs of pants? Then it’s time for a divorce. This super co-ordinated look is old, dated and makes you look unoriginal (unless of course you are in a traditional work position that requires a formal business look).

For a casual dressing, weekends especially, try breaking up these two key pieces and pairing them with other things in your closet. So instead of brown jeans with a brown jean jacket, try brown jeans fun sweater wrap with or a brown jean jacket with t-shirt, flowy skirt and boots. Matching pieces may be easy but they are not hip. Put them with other items in your wardrobe to help you look 10 years younger and you’ll project a more creative, playful you!

2. Layer Your Hair

Want to keep your hair long, but don’t to look like you are desperate to hang onto your youth? Then try this simple tricky. Layer your hair. Too many women over 40 with long hair wear it dead straight like they are still in high school. Follow the lead of celebs like Terri Hatcher, Cindy Crawford, Goldie Hawn, Jaclyn Smith and Renee Russo and add a little bounce with a good cut and a few layers to frame the face and create volume.

3. Pass on Pearl and Gold Buttons

We know a lot of you are attached to your favorite old cardigans with the pearl buttons and shiny gold buttons, but these look old fashioned and too conservative for a true Glam Gal. Instead opt for sweaters with modern plain flat buttons. And don’t forget you can always replace buttons too. A beautiful button on a plain sweater can make you look fabulous after 40.

4. Get rid of the Glitter

What is it about some women that makes them want to light themselves up like a Christmas tree- even during the daytime? We’re talking about those 40+ gals that go overboard with glitter and sparkles thinking shiny will make them look young. Maybe this really is a problem that comes with declining eyesight after 40??? Whatever the reason, we encourage you to look a little closer. Too much flash can really age a gal. If you want to sparkle, do it with your jewelry, and keep the glitz on your garments to a minimum.

5. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

So easy to do and so often overlooked, exfoliating your skin can make dull aging skin glow! Twice a week will keep your skin looking fresh and flawless. The latest home facial refinishers are an alternative to microdermabrasion. They make you feel like you’ve shed a mask and can help to make you look 10 years younger.

Body Fat Raises Cancer Risk

By: Dr Laurence Magne

New research findings show that extra body fat doesn't just weigh you down. Scientists now have evidence that too many fat cells prompt ongoing reactions in the body that may increase cancer risk.

A recent study in the Department of Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University found excess fat may alter the body's basic functioning in ways that raise risk for cancer and other diseases.

Research had already shown that obesity boosts levels of hormones such as estrogen, for example, which increase risk for breast cancer in post-menopausal women. Too much body fat, especially in the abdomen, also increases insulin resistance, priming the body for diabetes.

Now, recent findings suggest that fat deposits especially around the waist, may influence the body's inflammatory response so that risk for colon cancer is higher.

Inflammation is the body's first response to infection or injury. It's essential to healing, but it can go the other way. Researchers now suspect that chronic low-level inflammation of body tissues underlies a lot of disease processes. How does this happen?

There are substances called cytokines that are part of the body's inflammation response to help with fighting infection and healing wounds. Cytokines are made by white blood cells, but fat cells can make cytokines too.

These substances also help with wound repair by stimulating tissue growth. Research suggests that when the body has an oversupply of fat cells, those cells release too many cytokines. This boosts the body's inflammatory response and causes damage to cells and their DNA."

Where there is genetic damage plus stimulation for cells to grow, the chance of cells growing out of control and becoming cancer is increased. We all have cancer in our body at all times. The role of the immune system is to fight those cancer cells. However, when the immune system is working overtime dealing with the cleaning out of the fat in the system, it doesn’t have enough resources to fight the cancer cells.

A previous study showed that people who were obese, 30% over their normal body weight had a higher risk of colon cancer. People who were diabetic had increased risk.

Some cancers are known to be associated with persistent inflammation that's related to chronic infection. For example, people infected with one of the viruses that cause hepatitis are more susceptible to liver cancer. People with inflammatory bowel disease have above-average rates of colon cancer.

The idea that fat cells could be actively involved in promoting inflammation is a relatively new one. "There is more to being fat than carrying around excess weight. People should begin thinking of excess body fat as actively harmful to their health." When you study the human body, even as remotely as the way it is taught in schools, it stands to reason that excess fat is not a natural condition for the body. Excess fat will strain all the systems, being digestive, respiratory, the skeleton, etc.

The good news is that excess weight can be managed. Even walking every day as little as outside of the house and around the block, is a great starting point to healing, by sending a message of health to the brain and the body.

What Are The Health Benefits Of Saunas?

By: Amy Nutt

There are many individuals in the world that choose to use saunas regularly for the health benefits that saunas are supposed to provide. Studies have shown that the use of saunas is safe for the body. Saunas are typically a small room made out of wood and glass with a heater located inside that can be used to create a steam effect. Saunas are generally created without using varnish, adhesives, or any other items that might add fumes or an aroma to the steamy air inside of the sauna. Saunas are typically found in health clubs, spas, or resorts with very few being found in private homes. So what are the health benefits of saunas?

One of the health benefits of saunas revolves around the saunas use of radiant heat. It is believed that radiant heat has the ability to penetrate into the skin and help dissolve the fat deposits that are located just beneath the skin. It is also believed to help eliminate toxins that are present in the skin and the fat deposits beneath the skin. The detoxifying effects attributed to the sauna are one of the main reasons that many individuals choose to use the sauna. The heat of the sauna has also been demonstrated to improve blood circulation, allowing the toxins present in the blood to be removed from the system quickly and more effectively. The increased blood circulation allows improves the condition of many of the organs of the body, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, and skin.

Another health benefit of saunas that many individuals appreciate is their ability to relax the individual. Stress is seen as having a very negative effect on the health of an individual and any items that are seen as lessening an individual’s stress levels is presumed to improve the individual’s health. The relaxation allowed by the heat of the sauna is deep and can be just as relaxing as a massage or a session in a hot tub. In this state of relaxation, the tension in the muscles of the body disappears, eliminating muscle aches, headaches, and neck tension. Individuals that use a sauna regularly report increased energy levels and mental clarity when they have finished their session in the sauna.

Many individuals also believe that regular sessions in a sauna result in the reduction of cellulite in the body and can assist with weight loss. A 30 minute session in the sauna can help an individual burn between 300 and 600 calories while doing nothing more than sitting and relaxing. For the average person, usually 15 to 30 minutes per session and drink at to drink least two glasses of water after each sauna are recommended. Individuals with heart problems should check with their Physicians before going to a sauna session. Saunas has become very popular, people have them on their homes for a regular and continuous use. A combination of exercise, sauna sessions, and vitamin therapy is used by many health clubs and spas to facilitate weight loss in their clients.
